About

Ken Freytag began working in the floral industry at the age of 15. In the fall of 1973 at the age of 19, Ken opened the first Freytag's Florist. While awaiting the completion of Freytag's Northwest Florist Ken setup shop in his Mother's garage. Freytag's officially opened in its first location on the corner of Mesa Dr. and Spicewood Springs Rd. on February 10, 1974, just 4 days before Valentines Day. Freytag's main location remained on that corner for 29 years. Freytag's was one of the first businesses on Mesa Dr. opening the same year as Anderson High School. Chad Freytag, Ken's son, joined the management team in 1998. Chad has brought Freytag's to a level of technology unsurpassed by anyone in the Central Texas area. Casey Freytag Chitsey joined the sales and design team in 2006 and plays an important role in keeping our designs up to the level our customers have been accustom to for 35 years.

In 1984 Freytag's Florist was recognized as one of America's top 100 florists. Freytag's has remained a top 100 florist each year and is currently in the top 50 nation-wide. Freytag's has won many local and national awards including Best Of City Search and currently celebrating their sixth year to be voted Austin's Best Florist by readers of The Austin Chronicle.

Freytag's slowly outgrew the space on Mesa Dr and in 2002 the Freytag family purchased the building that housed Steak and Ale Restaurant for 34 years. The family renovated the building and converted it into Austin's largest retail florist with over 13,000 square feet. Freytag's Florist calls this building home today. Many Freytag family members are involved in the business today and are honored to be your florist.

Freytag's did a beautiful job with flowers for my daughter's wedding. They were easy and flexible to work with. Arrangements were beautiful! Exactly what we hoped for. Jackie went above and beyond, calming in every way possible. I use them and trust them with all my floral needs....thank you!

I bought our flowers loose and had family help put bouquets and boutonnieres together. Since our wedding was at Christmas time, we didn't need a lot of extra flowers and decorations. This saved us a fortune!!! Everyone at Freytag's was so helpful and even gave me some arrangement tips and ideas on which flower combinations looked best. They were super helpful and the flowers were BEAUTIFUL!! They know how to pick the best flowers!!!

I went to Freytag's hoping to get my bridal bouquet and bridesmaid's bouquets. I had an idea of the colors I wanted to use, but did not have a picture of the actual bouquets. While there, a salesman named off some flowers he thought would make a good combination, but I had not idea of the specific flowers he was referring to. I asked him to show me the flowers and colors. He said he did not have any pictures nor did he have any flowers he could pull from his stock that would help me visualize what he had in mind. I asked him about doing a "trial bouquet" and he said that it would cost regular price as the actual bouquet since he would be doing the same work. Freytag's did not have a book of their previous work or what I could order. The salesman eventually told me to go home and google a bouquet I liked and then bring the picture back to him and he would put it together. This was very poor service!

I ordered all of my wedding flowers, including all the flowers we used to make our own bouquets. I spent 4x more than I would have if I had ordered the flowers online, because I wanted to ensure their state of bloom. When I got my 'orange' alstroemerias, they were a deep, dark maroon. My Tiger Lilies (which I paid a whopping $6 a stem for) were barely blooming, and some stems had ZERO blooms-all completely shut buds. I was furious, but seeing as we didn't receive the flowers until the day of our wedding, we had no option but to use them. Very disappointed.

I had a terrible experience with Freytag's. I went to the Anderson Ln. location and met with one of the wedding designers to order my bouquet. It was going to be a simple design including white hydrangeas and white roses with english ivy cascading down so that it wasn't just a ball of flowers. There were some blue flowers just stuck in (looked like horns) and one of them was dead and black. The satin ribbon was torn and looked shabby. There was no ivy at all and my bouquet was just a ball. When I called to speak to the manager he basically said "thanks for your call". I paid $120 for a piece of you know what. Furthermore, this was not my first go-round with them. I used them before for a wedding bouquet and the roses were wilted and tiny. Over priced and so not worth it. Go with a local, small chain!
