Fonthill Castle was built in the early 1900s as a grand residence for a foremost archaeologist and antiquarian of the time. Renaissance man Henry Chapman Mercer was a person of many talents and pursuits. As a scholar, his life was filled with discoveries and collections, many of which needed a permanent home before this castle’s construction. He was also a renowned ceramist who crafted priceless pieces that are now on display in this location. To satisfy the need for both a fitting abode and showcase area, Fonthill Castle was built to present and house his achievements. The building’s aesthetic is a pleasing mix of various architectural styles, including Byzantium, medieval, and gothic. Up to 250 guests can attend an event at Fonthill Castle, surrounded by its unique ambiance for an unforgettable occasion.

During the months of May to October, couples can live out their fantasy with a ceremony in the enchanted gardens surrounding the castle. The celebration continues in a large clear-top event tent allowing guests to enjoy the wonder of nature as well as the stunning external architecture of the surrounding buildings.
