Five years ago when my husband and I realized we needed a church to get married in, we began our search. After several months of wandering aimlessly around Brooklyn looking for "the one", we were divinely led to Flatlands Reformed Church while driving home late one night. As soon as we saw it, we were stunned by its simplicity, magnificence and beauty. We inquired about how we could get married there and it was suggested we first attend a service. We did that Sunday, and we quickly fell in love. Within three years after faithfully attending, we became official members.

Flatlands is a landmarked and historic quaint and cozy colonial-styled house of worship nestled in Flatlands, Brooklyn that sits on substantial land and also houses an activities building and cemetery. The interior is very simple and the Order of Worship is uncomplicated, peaceful, and serene. The congregation is small and welcoming, and we all work very well together in maintaining the church.

Pastor Paul Glover is the officiant who married us. We were required to take 6 marriage counseling classes which we thought were going to be difficult and stressful-- we couldn't have been more wrong! Instead, the process was encouraging and brought out resolvable issues and served as a blueprint to begin building the foundation of our marriage. We looked forward to every class!

On our wedding day, our guests couldn't stop talking about how beautiful the church and the service was. Many were surprised such a gem even existed in Brooklyn! I cannot wait to get our photos back! It was the perfect setting for how we envisioned our wedding.

If you are looking to get married in a gorgeous and classic church, Flatlands Reformed is the best choice! As a member, I'd also encourage you (as we were) to first come to a service of worship. If you do, you'll most likely fall in love and you too will have an amazing wedding ceremony and experience just like we did!

Flatland Dutch Reformed Church: 3931 Kings Hwy, Brooklyn, New York 11210

This church has a historical elegance and beauty that is simple, peaceful and lovely. Pastor Glover is spiritual and became a confidant to us. It doesn't have a center isle, instead it has two-side isle. We loved the church so much, we made it work for us. Couples must do six (at least) consultation with the pastor before they can be married and attend a service. These consultations discuss and explore all aspects of individuality, marriage, children, extended family, health, spirituality, finances, and goals. You would be surprise at what you have not discussed with your significant other…this really helps.

We could have easily done an officiant at the venue but we wanted a special blessing. Having it at this church gave us just that. Being Catholic and Pentecostal - we found the median we were looking for. We are blessed! Worth looking into! (Married 2-21-14)
We're all about trust. Our community relies on honest reviews to help you make those big decisions with ease.
