History
The initial plan for a First United Methodist Church of Jamaica house of worship was conceived at a quarterly conference in 1846. Church worshipers originally decided to erect a building on Fulton Street, which, shortly after, was deemed too small for their growing community. In 1866 a new plot of land was purchased at the corner of Fulton Street and Puntine Street, and the church was subsequently moved. In 1920, the construction of Fulton Street’s elevated railroad station disrupted worship, causing the church to relocate to Clinton Avenue.
