About Film By Sara
Hello, I'm Sara Combs. I am a photographer and filmmaker.
I love film AKA analog photography. I started out with film photography in 2006 when I took darkroom classes while I was going to school. In 2011, I got married and realized I’d be great at photographing weddings. In 2016 I did my first wedding video AKA wedding film.
I’ve photographed and filmed many weddings, and for some time I used digital photography. Some people can’t tell the difference between digital photography versus film photography, but I can. I prefer to use film and all of the slideshows below are film photographs, but if you insist on digital photography… I’m up for it. I love the softness, color gamut, highlight and shadow retention I get from film photographs, as well as the soul. If you cannot tell the difference or are not as picky as me, digital photography does have a quicker turnaround and is much lighter equipment for me to carry.
You may not love all of the photographs below in the slideshows, I have used many different film stocks. If there is a certain look you are going for specifically please let me know when you contact me. I can definitely make it happen. Same goes for video.
When I make films I frame similarly to how I photograph things and also go about a photojournalistic style. My aim is to capture the aesthetic and emotion of your day.
My favorite photographers are John Dolan and Naomi Goggin.
"My job is simple: Capture the spirit of the wedding. If I try to control events, I change the truth of the event. I try to behave like a welcomed guest." – John Dolan
