We loved Derek!! We originally hired him for our October 2024 wedding, and when that was postponed due to Helene, Derek graciously worked with us so he’d be there to shoot in December 2024 when my husband and I decided to get married at the Buncombe County Courthouse and recite “mini vows” at Diana on Biltmore Estate (our wedding venue). Derek even lent my husband his belt since my husband forgot his! 

Derek’s warmth, creativity, and knowledge made my husband and me feel like we were in the best of hands and we could be our true selves. 

Our March 2025 wedding weekend beginning at the Crest Pavillion and subsequently Biltmore Estate was captured by Derek and his crew in the most exquisite way. He was with us from start to finish and was a comforting presence through out. 

If you get the chance to work with Derek, I strongly recommend you do so! 

I would choose Derek every single time to shoot our wedding! He was so communicative, professional, attentive, and made us so comfortable on wedding day. The photos are everything I could have imagined and more. We also didn't feel like we spent too much time away from our wedding taking photos, which was huge. Derek was punctual on both the wedding day as well as with getting our photos to us. 10/10 recommend.

Choosing Derek as our photographer was one of the best decisions I've ever made. He really appreciates how once-in-a-lifetime those photos are and takes such care to capture not only the beauty of the event but also the energy in the room (or outside!).

I think his work speaks for itself, but he is also just such a wonderful human to have around on your wedding day. He was so good at popping up when we wanted to capture a moment and fading into the background whenever we needed to just enjoy the day. My husband and I are camera-shy, and he was amazing to work with and made us so comfortable the whole time. He's not only an incredible artist, but also very easy to work with, kind, and attentive. He is passionate about what he does, and it shows in his work. He's prompt with his responses, courteous, and very professional.

I think the best recommendation I can give is just some examples of his work. He is so creative, and his photographs are really unique. He captures the environment so well and somehow makes the viewer feel what the people in the photo were feeling at the time. Many people were unable to make it to our wedding because of health reasons, and his photos are indescribably valuable in sharing our day with our loved ones who couldn't be there. He takes pride in his job and really jumps in there to get the perfect shot.

He did our engagement photos and our wedding photos, and we couldn't be happier with them. We'll truly cherish them forever.

My husband and I hired Derek to photograph our wedding in Candler, NC. We would HIGHLY recommend Derek if you are looking for a photographer. Derek was communicative, flexible, personable, and takes the most beautiful photos I have ever seen. From the time that we expressed interest in his services to receiving our photos and albums, we were extremely impressed. Derek worked with us to customize a package to make sure we were getting everything that we wanted. He went above and beyond in his communication throughout the entire planning process which left us at ease knowing everything would be handled. Derek was so easy to work with and really helped me and my husband navigate the whole timeline of our wedding. He was professional, organized, and creative. Our wedding party was thoroughly impressed by his direction and how comfortable he made them all feel while taking posed pictures in particular. Derek photographed our wedding and was just absolutely phenomenal from start to finish! Derek was super available during the planning process, and we even met on-site to talk through the day and different locations (we had no idea where to do our first look at Derek came up with multiple options, all of them wonderful). On the day of, he made everything so easy and feel effortless! We had a few last-minute changes and Derek had back-up plans on back-up plans and made sure everything was seamless. He is incredibly professional and was great with our families. Our previews are GORGEOUS!! I cannot recommend Derek highly enough!!

Derek is the BEST!! He was so fun to work with and communication and planning was easy. He was up for anything, even going on an adventure with us to shoot at a waterfall. Derek was absolutely amazing to work with. We chatted on the phone prior to booking him to ask questions and get a sense of his style. We were super impressed with the level of professionalism and felt like Derek was a perfect pick for us given his extensive experience with outdoor photography since our wedding was outdoors. My husband and I decided to do engagement photos with Derek before our wedding because neither of us were sure about being in front of the camera and wanted to get a feel for things. Not having a clue, we left things up to Derek and we’re so glad we did. We INSTANTLY felt comfortable with him and had a blast going around Asheville for our engagement session. Derek was great communicating as we came up to the big day and was super wonderful to work with. On the day of the wedding, Derek was absolutely amazing. He arrived early and scouted out a great place for our first look. He worked with our young flower girl and our dog easily and went above and beyond to capture amazing shots. Derek created a video slideshow for us with our vows and special songs which was the perfect way to have a “video” that was special to us without a videographer.
