About

Being a native of San Diego, I was lucky enough to grow up in Cardiff by the Sea. I spent my summers hitting VG's Donuts on the way down to the reef for coffee and donuts before paddling out on the glassy water for tiny summer swells. Eventually, I started spending all my spare time (and all of my money) at Lou's Records instead of surf shops.

It was with my grandmothers old 1970's Hasselblad, a pair of lenses, and a hand-held light meter that I learned how to make an accurate exposure, and how to compose an image. I miss the smell of freshly unwrapped film, and shooting square frames.

After years of photographing weddings, in every environment imaginable, I've learned to see the world a little differently than other people. Every time I walk down the street, or walk in to a room, I instinctively look for the direction of the light, and imagine how I could make the best possible image.

I really do thrive on making the best images I can for my clients. I want viewers to feel what it was like to be part of the day. Sure, all weddings have a ceremony, and usually a party, but it's the people that make each wedding it's own unique celebration. Your wedding will not be exactly like any other wedding that has ever happened. It will be yours. The next day, when you are wondering how it all went by so fast, you still have your photographs to remember it by.

Planning our wedding from Australia certainly came with its fair share of challenges, but it was vendor's like Phil that made the whole process so much easier and enjoyable. Phil was open to such technologies as Skype (a lot of vendors weren't), and spent the time to get to know us to know what approach he was going to take on the day and he nailed it!!
He offered an engagement shoot with his package but we clearly weren't going to be able to use that as we only arrived in SD the week before, but he still offered to do a relaxed shoot with us and our kids which was fantastic.
On the day he was nothing but professional, with his assistant Rosie at his side they made a fantastic team that were invisible yet captured the day moment by moment and delivered on all the wish list items we wanted.
Thanks Phil and Rosie xx

I found Philip DeFalco through my coworker who used him as her wedding photographer. His prices were very reasonable and fit in our budget. He arrived early for both our engagement photos and on the wedding day which was great. Communication was great, he answered all of my 100's of question very fast. My wedding photos turned out amazing and I can't wait to show them off. I'm very satisfied with my photographer choice and would recommend Philip to anyone getting married. My only suggestion is to have a shot list as a couple of photos I wanted got missed in the craziness of the wedding day.
