Custom House Maritime Museum is a museum wedding venue located in Newburyport, Massachusetts. In addition to offering space for events, the museum provides educational and cultural opportunities for the area. This coastal and historic property offers a beautiful and memorable place for couples and guests to celebrate milestones together. Couples can arrive by boat, enjoy photos by the water, and make new memories in a wonderfully unique setting.

Facilities and Capacity

Custom House Maritime Museum can host ceremonies, receptions, and many other important occasions. Indoor and outdoor spaces mean that couples can choose their favorite area to enjoy their wedding. The Second Floor Main Gallery can accommodate up to 75 people for a cocktail-style gathering or it can welcome 50 when the space is set up in theater-style. The Lawn provides a beautiful, nature-inspired area where more than 150 invitees can mix and mingle in a large tent. Custom House Maritime Museum is a breathtakingly beautiful property that offers amazing views and ample space for festivities and revelry.

Perfect coastal wedding venue for intimate wedding!

We worked with CATCH events to plan our hometown wedding in 5 months! They knew the vendors, the location and were very helpful in providing guidance and helping us stay on track throughout the planning process. They were organized the day of and made sure that everything came together perfectly. It was everything we wanted in our wedding day. We highly recommend having your wedding at the Custom House no matter the season!

perfect HS graduation / off-to-college sendoff party

Our event was not a wedding. Instead, we wanted to throw a memorable off-to-college party (approximately 75 guests) for our daughter in our beautiful seaside town of Newburyport. After we decided on an outdoor event at the waterfront Custom House Museum, Pat and Jacqueline (CAtCH Events) were recommended to us.

Pat and Jacqueline were as good as one can imagine event planners can be. They were professional, efficient, responsive, and friendly. Although we are not regular event hosts, they made us feel comfortable immediately, and truly listened to and attended to every interest and concern we had around the event. We went back and forth on a few ideas, changed the number of guests on them a few times, had a few last-second issues, etc.; through it all they smoothly reacted to every change with grace and speed. In the end, the event was a truly memorable one, that, through their tireless and creative efforts, highlighted our daughter's pride in the schools from which she graduated, her excitement in the college to which she would be attending, and the attachment she has to her hometown, friends, and family.

We recommend them unreservedly. They will take care of your every need on your special day.

Dream Wedding at the Custom House

My husband and I truly had our dream wedding at the Custom House Maritime Museum in June 2021. The Museum staff, especially the Executive Director Joan Whitlow, and their event planning team (Pat Cannon and Jacqueline Chauvin), helped create a beautiful experience for all of our guests and were very accommodating. Getting married at this historic site, which is situated by the boardwalk on the Merrimack River, provided a memorable experience for us and our guests. We held our cocktail hour inside the museum (being sure we were respectful of the historic artifacts and displays), and our reception and lawn games were held on the lawn behind the museum in a gorgeous set-up by Sperry, where views of the river and sunset delighted the eyes and senses until nightfall. From the beautiful aesthetics of the museum and river, to the stunning architecture and natural beauty of the City of Newburyport framing the scene around us, this is truly a jewel of a venue to get married or celebrate a special occasion. We feel so honored to have had the opportunity to celebrate our wedding at the Custom House and we hope future couples get to experience the same magic of our day.
