The Colvin House History
The Colvin House was designed by architect George Maher, who was a contemporary of Frank Lloyd Wright. He used his signature style of Rhythym-Motif Theory on the mansion, utilizing triangles and tulips as motifs to create unique architectural elements. This mansion exudes charm and character while still boasting original details. The architecture outlines an ideal location for any of your wedding events, from your ceremony, reception, or elopement, to your bridal shower, engagement party, and rehearsal dinner. There are indoor and outdoor options that provide scenic views of Chicago’s Northside lakefront. The mansion is across the street from Lake Michigan, which can serve as a beautiful backdrop to any photo or wedding ceremony.
About Colvin House Mansion
Built in 1909, the Colvin House is a historic wedding venue located in Chicago, Illinois. This mansion exudes charm and character while still boasting original details. The interior of the Colvin House was renovated in the 1920s to reflect the time period, and can seat up to 100 guests for your wedding on the first floor. You can add on other areas of the house to increase the capacity. The interior includes stunning ornate details with stone pillars, plaster molding, and decorative ceilings. A crystal chandelier and the marble fireplaces still stand from the original design when it was built in 1909. The first floor is available with a number of spaces to use from a parlor, to a foyer, a dining room, and sun rooms. The house does include a collection of custom, in-house furniture, if needed. There is a large fenced-in brick courtyard to host your outdoor event and a tent can be added in case of inclement weather. There is a bridal suite available on the third floor of the house you can use to get ready beforehand. Parking is available on site, and the venue is wheelchair accessible.

Winter wedding at the Colvin House
The Colvin House was a beautiful and affordable venue to host our wedding. We loved the architecture of the house and the proximity to the lake and city. Laura and her team were very flexible and easy to work with leading up to the wedding and on wedding day. I would sincerely recommend engaged couples to consider getting married here!

Uniquely wonderful venue
Colvin House is a charming, fabulous space for gatherings of up to 100. Its quirky and compelling architecture started a lot of conversations, and the staff could not have been more helpful. We had a wonderful event!

Beautiful, unique space for a special party!
Colvin House is such a special gem. The location and charm can't be beat, and both Angela (owner) and Laura (manager) went above and beyond when our plans evolved (as plans do) to help insure we -- and our guests -- had a wonderfully memorable, comfortable and beautiful experience. Super bonus? The lake is just across the street, expanding the potential for awesome photos. Everyone was impressed with the architectural details inside, too -- there is so much to explore (purple bathroom, carved pillars, intricate ceilings, chandeliers, Juliet balcony, I could go on). We also appreciated the ample restroom options for guests (an extra block is downstairs) and a nice, working kitchen. What also made the venue a great fit was their granting us the freedom to secure vendors of choice -- important to us.
