I'm going to recommend that everyone local to Okemos looking for a dress makes a visit to Becker's Bridal Outlet!

It's difficult to figure out which store will have the dress that fits YOU! Sure, a lot of bridal shops are friendly and positive. I generally had a good experience at most bridal shops before finding the dress I ended up buying here at Becker's Outlet.

I was getting somewhat tired of the process by the time I got here and decided to give it a try. Some shops have appointments and time limits, or sizes so far off that you can't even imagine how it would fit you. What I liked about Becker's was that I walked in (no appointment) and found about 15 dresses that I was interested in, grabbed them off the racks, and tried them on at my own speed. The staff was friendly, helpful and fun, and not overbearing!

Don't let the word "outlet" scare you. These are quality dresses. And you don't have to buy the ones on the rack - most of the time they can order a new one in the same style for you or a dress in a different size. I ended up going one size up from the one on the rack and it was only $200 more than the on-the-rack version. It also feels great to try on dresses that are close to your size.

I can't promise that you would find the dress that is the right one for you at ANY shop, but the experience is very simple here, and definitely worth a visit.

Wedding Dress Alterations

If I could do alterations again for my daughter's wedding dress, I would have chosen a different seamstress. At the recommendation of friend's, we went to Coco's Off The Rack. We went in 3 months before the wedding for first fitting. They didn't schedule next fitting until one month before wedding, which did concern my daughter. Day of that fitting, they cancelled because they were behind. Next appointment was a week later (3 weeks before wedding). We were told to bring bridesmaids who were helping with the bustle at wedding. No alterations had been done, just pinning and cups sewn in. Bustle was not done either so no tutorial on bustling dress at this fitting. The last fitting was scheduled the Monday before
Saturday wedding. Bustle was completed; however, Dress HAD NOT been altered in the bust area and the shoulder straps were falling off my daughter's shoulders. Next fitting was next day-Tuesday. Shoulder straps were altered correctly; however, bust area was not a good fit with alterations completed. With just days before wedding, we did not have time get a better fit in the boob area or to find a different seamstress. If they would have scheduled the second fitting two months before wedding, we would not have been scrambling at the last minute with dress fittings the week of wedding. Also, we live and hour away so two long trips the week of wedding was also stressful. Lastly, one of the cups came loose during wedding and showed on dress. I have attached a pictures. First picture is before ceremony and cup still in place. Second picture is at reception where cup had worked loose.

Felt not cared for when I wasnt there and faked cared for when I was there

I had 3 appointments total for alterations on my wedding dress. I'm from a small town 2 hours away. Second appointment I went to, they never wrote it down and my appointment was forgotten along with getting any of my dress done knowing my next appointment was the one before my wedding. I went back for my last appointment to pick up my dress and it had boning in one side of the front top and no boning in the other side. One side of my front was slouchy and wrinkly and the other with boning looked nice except the boning on the boob pointed out. I'm not sure why she took the whole boning out of the right side to begin with because the dress looked beautiful, the boning on the boob area just needed to be laid down so it wasn't pointy. We waited an hour and a half and she put the boning back in the complete wrong spot, we had to wait another half hour...Then I tried it on again and could see the boning because my wedding dress was black. We had to wait again for that to be fixed and she finally flattened the boning on the left side to try to match it with the other. My dress was $1,800 and I paid almost $600 for alterations (with steaming, but by the end of the appt was it still freshly steamed, no. It was messed with for five hours). My appt was at 4:30pm and we didn't get home til 11:30pm. I was going to let this all go, but then my bussel threads were broken before I could even put it up at my wedding, so I had to go without putting my train up. Not sure if they broke easily from messing with it so much at alterations or if it broke when I was walking through grass at my wedding, either way it shouldn't have broken so easily. Very dissappointed and wouldn't recommend. They were very nice, but my MOH did hear the owner complaining in the back. My dress got tightened at the top to lift the girls, I got length cut off, and they did my bustle. They did compliment me a lot and gave us $10 for gas money to Biggby while we waited once, but all in all, wasn't a good experience...

Don’t get your dress altered here

Do not get your wedding dress altered here. My wife was promised multiple times that her dress would be ready to be taken home and left without her dress because they were so behind and overbooking themselves. They were so rushed that they made major changes to the dress that were not requested without permission. The ladies working made several rude statements/comments about my wife’s weight as if it were her fault the dress was not fitting. They either cancelled or pushed back several appointments due to “bride emergencies” that seemed to always coincide with appointments. She ended up getting her dress a couple days before the wedding in the way she wanted it, but it was an awful experience getting to that point. This is a place that over promises and under delivers every step of the way, and makes you feel like there’s something wrong with you for insisting on getting what you paid for/what you know you want your dress to look like.

Don’t get your dress altered here!!!!

Phony, unreliable, poor communication and unprofessional! After dropping off a mother of the bride dress to be hemmed (no major alterations needed) in April, the hem was marked and confirmations of alterations clearly communicated. I had an early June (2 months later) appointment and when I arrived nothing was done! Received a phony run-around response for not doing any work on the dress for 2 months! Came back two weeks later and the hem was still too long. Received another call asking if I could pick it up another time, not at my scheduled appointment! Ridiculous and a very phony response again! Do NOT go here for alterations! You can’t count on their service! Poor! They don’t care about your schedule and continue to pivot and reschedule appointments because of their irresponsibility and lack of care about the preparation of your most special event. Disappointed at best! They are fake!

Horrible Experience with Wedding Dress Alterations

We entrusted Coco at Coco’s Off the Rack with my daughter’s wedding dress beginning January 6. We did not receive the dress or veil until May 20 at 12:30 AM. Coco knew the wedding was on May 22nd and that we were leaving May 21st.

On May 20th at 12:30 AM, when we finally did get the veil, it had been roughly cut at the bottom, clearly rushed. The wedding gown was not what we paid for, was altered incorrectly, and required immediate emergency fixes. The mother of the bride dress had seams coming apart and unfinished work, and the maid of honor dress was hemmed poorly.

The mother of the bride dress was later repaired by another seamstress, but there was not enough time to fix the damage to the wedding dress or veil before the wedding by that seamstress.

The veil ultimately had to be cut again to make it wearable by a volunteer at a local fabric shop.

During the wedding, we missed important family photos because the bride’s dress had to be removed and temporarily repaired on the inside where the boning had been left jagged and was protruding through the fabric, causing injury to the bride’s abdomen.

Coco apologized and explained she had been busy with prom dresses, but this was not communicated to us in advance so we could have made other arrangements. We were given multiple explanations at different appointments for delays, which we unfortunately trusted.

Since then, two friends who also had wedding dresses there chose to pick theirs up early. When taken elsewhere, other seamstresses were reportedly shocked by Coco's workmanship and how poorly the dresses were done.

I also had another bride reach out to me telling me her dress was in pieces a few days before her wedding. Coco ended up delivering it to the bride on her wedding day and the work was still not done correctly. Coco had offered us the option of bringing our dresses and veil to our wedding venue but there was no way we could trust her to do that and I after hearing from the other bride I am glad we didn’t.

I am very concerned about the quality of workmanship and the experience we had, and I do not want another bride or family to go through this.

Coco did refund the cost of my dress, the veil, and part of what I paid for my daughter’s dress. While I appreciate the apology and partial refund, the stress leading up to the wedding and the loss of irreplaceable family photos is something I will never forget.

The first two photos were taken in her shop. The photo with the veil laying against my couch is to show a clearer visual of how she "shortened" my daughter's veil.

Completely Ignored

Well I guess it was a good thing that the wedding was postponed, because there is now a year to get this dress FIXED. Coco's completely ignored what was asked for and ruined the focal point of the dress and then refused to fix it. Even if it was requested that you line the whole lace back, they did a terrible job at it. The seam was all wrong, chunky and plain sloppy. Also, who puts a three foot train on a one point bustle that high up on the dress? The line of the dress is now completely wrecked. They wouldn't acknowledge that they made a mistake, and refused to fix it. Go to someone who actually works with wedding dresses. Don't let their niceties fool you!
