Bill & Carol absolutely blew our minds (and our guests minds) with their DELICIOUS food at our wedding. We can't say enough about these two. Not only are they extraordinarily cute but have a level of class and professionalism that was lacking in all the other Oh...13 or so caterers we met and tasted with...yup...we're THAT particular when it comes to quality, taste, presentation, professionalism, reliability, cost and the Sea Shanty hit every nail on the head. There are so many food vendors out there who are pretentious, snobby and generally unpleasant and Carol was just the type of vibe we were looking for. She cares so much about her business and reputation and strives to make her clients so happy; you can feel it. We are so thankful for their unforgettable food and service and look forward to visiting the Sea Shanty again and again when we visit the Central Coast of California! <3

Sea Shanty was absolutely amazing!! From the food to the exceptional service provided by the staff. Nothing was missed. My venue ran into a messy situation at the last minute. Carole assured me that all would be fine and she made it all happen without a hitch. She also provided a special request for an ice cream bar. Very professional and easy to work with. We LOVE Carol and her team at the Sea Shanty! They catered our wedding at the Cayucos Garden Event Center and EVERYTHING was perfect. Carol is an absolute sweetheart! Not only did she fulfill my needy request of a large menu tasting two months before the wedding, but she sat down with us and went through the whole menu and made some helpful suggestions of food that my husband and I don't like but that would be sure to please our guests (like the salmon that EVERYONE ate and LOVED). We had our wedding day brunch at the Sea Shanty as well and that was lovely. Carol and her staff made our reception run perfectly. From the delicious appetizers, to the wonderful entrees, to the extravagant dessert buffet, and the perfect bartenders, everything was what we hoped for! And, all of it was at an amazingly wonderful cost that fit our budget so well. Thank you Carol! I am trying to find another reason to have you cater something soon (we are already thinking of a 10 year vow renewal, but that is way too far away)! :) You can bet we will stop by every time we are in Cayucos though! Carol and the Sea Shanty provided the catering for our wedding at Cayucos Creek Barn and we could not have asked for a more wonderful team. Not only was the food DIVINE (and Matt and I didn't even have to go get it - they brought it to us at the reception!), but their team was extremely professional and worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make our day perfect. They even set up and tore down all the decorations and piled them neatly for us to pick up the next day. They allowed me to truly enjoy the reception - and not have to worry about guests being happy/fed/well boozed/etc. I highly recommend them to anyone wanting a wedding reception of a lifetime.

Carol really went above and beyond on our wedding day. They take on more than just a role of a caterer. Carol and her team have done a lot of weddings and have their routine down to a science. We were thankful that she took on more responsibilities than we were expecting. As a result, we had less things to worry about which is important. The food was excellent and so was the service. Highly recommended!

Carol and her team did a great job at our wedding. The food was incredible and they even packaged us up a care package for us to take home! At times it was difficult to get a hold of them since they also manage a restaurant, but email communication helped simplify that a lot.

It's hard to get Carol on the phone, but she really knows how to cater a wedding. Many of my guests commented that this was the best food they'd ever had at a wedding. Tons of food, buffet style, very fresh. If you need someone to just take care of the catering, call Carol. If you want to have a whole lot of control over the food, go elsewhere.

The food was ok. The display of the food look great.The helpers were a good group to work with but Carol herself was a little moody. She was packing up things at 9:15 when music & the Wedding was still going on. Even the glasses for drinking were gone, we end up using plastic cups . I thought that was rude the guest would be thinking it was time to go home. I ask the owner of the place if the music could be played longer, he had no problem with it but Carol said that next time the D.J. had to got through her first. That was uncall for, it is not her place to tell the D.J. that. I would not use her again. RoseAnn Dugo

You only get one chance to wow your guests with great food and service, so don't blow it by going with Sea Shanty. To summarize, the owner Carol is rude and unprofessional. Communication is horrible. The food was just okay. The only good thing about them is their display (beautiful, but I had NO idea about anything with the set-up because Carol can't communicate) and their staff, which I have no idea how they put up with someone like Carol.

A few small examples:

In planning for the wedding, one time she took 8 days to reply to my email. When you have a bunch of people asking you questions (DJ, Photographer about your timeline, etc...) 8 days is not good enough in this industry. Her communication is pretty ridiculous.

In my final invoice, none of her numbers added up and she shorted me by a lot on my deposit. Thank goodness I was paying attention.

The day before the wedding, I left a detailed message asking her to please call me back - never returned my call. She showed up later, hardly even introduced herself to my fiance, and the whole time they were setting up she was so rude & unpleasant. All of my family there were completely shocked, saying things like "you're paying this lady & she's acting like this?!?" I can't describe how rude she was, you truly had to see it for yourself.

At the wedding, let's see.... wedding was set to go until 10pm. At 9:15 or so, they put away all their glasses and guests had to switch to plastic cups. They broke down guest tables, misplacing a family member's purse. They made the guests feel uncomfortable by cleaning up early. When my mom came up to her and asked her to please stop, as the wedding isn't set to end for another 45 minutes and we don't want to rush our guests out, she literally huffed & sat down with her arms crossed. We had a bunch of home brewed beers in the glass fridge, clear for people to see and come get themselves - at about 9:15 they also boxed up our beers into the cases and put them back in the fridge, in boxes!! it looked so tacky and our guests thought we were out of beer. When the barn owner & DJ decided to allow us to extend the party an extra half hour, Carol rudely went up to both of them and said this needs to be ran by her and it's not okay to just allow the party to go on longer. I know she had paid staff there, but I do not need to ASK you for permission to continue our reception.

I emailed her all of my concerns a few days after the wedding - her response was not at all apologetic, just very "we always break down stuff early so we can get out on time, your wedding is no exception".... it was rude and annoying, just like Carol.

I truly think they were good years ago, as you can tell from ratings back in 2005 or whatever, they seemed good. But I think Carol is burnt out and just over it. She should not be doing weddings anymore. I only hope she finally realizes it before she continues to be the ONE THING in a couples wedding that was a complete bust.
