From the very first time we met Laura (via FaceTime) we immediately vibed with her and ended that call feeling relieved that we found someone that who understood our direction. When Joey and I got engaged we honestly didn’t believe we would need a wedding planner. We started our first couple months engaged getting our feet wet; looking at different vendors, and gathering information about all inclusive venues. I personally LOVE to plan events and throw parties, my mom as well, so we didn’t think a wedding planner would be necessary. However, everywhere Joey and I would go and every person we talked to couldn’t offer us exactly what we needed or wanted. I heard about Laura Helm and her team at Ashton Events and decided to see what she could offer. I. Was. Blown. Away. Immediately Laura got to know me and my now husband and I and started piecing our special day together.
To be totally transparent, Laura went above and beyond for my family, Joey, and I. My sister, maid of honor, was on a heart transplant list. With our wedding being out of town for both our families, it was pivotal that we could find someone who was willing to work with us if something were to happen to my sister. Laura and her team where the only ones who could help (not even wedding insurance, yes that is a real thing, would cover our families medical need during this season of wedding planning). At that moment, I knew Laura was more than a wedding planner, she cared and became like family to us.
From phone call check-in’s, to vendor meetings, everything was so smooth working with Laura. Laura executed our vision perfectly! Both Joey and I are detail oriented individuals and we were able to trust Laura and her team completely with our dream day. There wasn’t one thing on the day of our wedding that I would change. All of Ashton Events are professional, trendy, and innovative! Laura brought to the table ideas you can’t find on Pinterest. She is an artisan and creator!
Laura and her team helped Joey and I rest easy throughout our engagement and not sweat the small stuff. Laura wouldn’t allow us to stress and offered to take things off our plate and remind us what the big picture was. We had the time of our lives. Joey and I are 8 months married and wish every day we could do our wedding all over again because it was that much fun!! All of our friends and family still talk about how fun our wedding was. We couldn’t have done it without the amazing Laura Helm and her team.

For background, my wife and I live in DC, but we got married in FL. We are both extremely busy and didn't have much time to travel to visit all the various vendors. We were quite worried about trying to plan a wedding from afar. But Laura was extremely patient as she worked with us and our hectic schedules. She started by working to understand us. Our likes and dislikes. What we liked to do together. Things that were meaningful for our relationship. By the end, Laura seemed to know more about our tastes and preferences than we did! She could anticipate what we would like and dislike, and would only recommend vendors or decor that she knew fit us.

When the inevitable emergency came up (trust me, something WILL come up--for us, it was that our venue cancelled a month before the wedding), Laura worked hard to find us a venue that was even better than the first! We decided to use my wife's parents' back yard. Laura transformed their yard into the perfect place for a wedding reception. She took full advantage of the outdoor space by setting up a cigar lounge area, a tent under the stars, and a beautiful sitting area where guests could talk and relax. It was so perfect that most of our friends thought we had planned to use that venue from day 1. They never would have guessed that it all came together in a couple of weeks.

Allow me to ask speak to the value Laura provided. In addition to saving us hundreds of hours and helping our wedding be as stress free as possible, Laura was able to find us the absolute best deals on everything. Because of her contacts with the various vendors, they all gave us discounts (some even provided their services for half the initial price). In a time where all things wedding related are extremely pricey, Laura's services almost paid for itself.

Ashton Events, and Laura Helm are consummate professionals with a very personal touch. She listens, advises, and puts an event together that is without flaw. Her hard work and dedication to her clients seems to know no bound. She was always available, put in long hours, and even though at first, I wondered exactly what a wedding planner did for their fee, I am not thoroughly convinced she charges too little. She was engaging and put in hours of dealing with multiple people's ideas and desires.
Our daughters wedding was particularly complex, since both the Bride and Groom live out of state in different cities, and she had to deal with the parents (me!). She planned every detail from the rehearsal to the closing of the reception. She prepared the floral arrangements, coordinated the best vendors (believe me she knows best on this!), gathered a staff of ladies who arranged for the elderly to have transportation, made guests feel important and aware. She always looked out for the budget, and had a mind full of caring for the Bride and Groom. I give her the highest of praise.

Deciding to have a wedding planner and choosing Laura Helm as that planner was the smartest decision my husband and I made for our wedding. When you start actually planning a wedding choosing all the right details and actually pinning down what you want for your special day can be pretty overwhelming, at least for someone like me. When I first met with Laura I immediately felt at ease. She was so easy to talk to and I felt like she was asking all the right questions even about the things that I didn't even think of. She was so kind and made me feel so special. I knew that having her by my side and helping me with this day she was going to get me everything I wanted and I wouldn't have a care in the world that day other than walking down the aisle. Her main focus the entire planning process was to make sure that we had all of the details done so that when even by the rehearsal dinner, we were able to completely enjoy every moment of our special weekend. If I were to redo my entire wedding she would be the first person I call. I knew that no matter what I asked she wouldn't look at me like a crazy person. She had the most helpful team and I just couldn't have done it without her!

Laura at Ashton Events was simply amazing to work with! Early in the planning process, I was struggling to identify my wedding day style. I had often dreamed of what my wedding day would feel like, but not the specific details of what it would look like. Laura had the unique ability to take the feeling I wished to portray and turn to into reality. She was there to help guide me with decisions both big and small- from my wedding dress and bouquet, to the color of the dinner napkins- always keeping in mind the way I wanted the day to feel.

Laura also took the time to get to know both my husband and I on a personal level. She helped us select vendors that were not only excellent, but were also the perfect fit for us. For the event design she hand crafted custom decor that was both unique and breathtakingly beautiful. After seeing our wedding and looking back on the pictures we can not say thank you enough ! Through out the process I wondered a few times If I should have went with a hispanic wedding planner . It was so important for myself and my family to include that " Spanish feel" while also including my husband's american culture . Laura you are hands down a mind reader ! I know between Mike and I we didnt always make it clear what we wanted . We through out bits and pieces of ideas and things we wanted and you nailed it !
Everything looked great and turned out to be much more than what we were expecting. You tied in both of our cultures and for that I thank you . The most important thing that I want people to know is that your not just a "event coordinator" You did a little bit of everything from making signs , menus , invitations getting us last minute items before the wedding and just being that someone to turn to when things got stressful.
