The chicken dance, YMCA, the hokey pokey...I think that was it.

Edited to add: We told our DJ no gangster rap or heavy metal. That stuff does not belong at a wedding.

I've got a few, also including songs like Macarena, Chicken Dance, etc. I also can't stand some of those super cheesy songs like "Celebrate" and "We Are Family"

I wasn't that in to the music side but we did tell him no cheesy wedding songs like Aliison listed above most of all YMCA...

Mrs to be I would say rap is not for your wedding... we had LOTS of old school 90's rap and newer rap/dance mixes and the dance party was amazing!

I am looking forward to watching my friends and family doing YMCA and that kind of thing. It will be so funny!!!! I think those kind of songs make a wedding reception fun!!! The kids will love it!!!!

We were in the midst of making a pretty extensive 'do not play' list including pretty much all of the songs you ladies have listed...when a friend advised us against it. She said that at her sisters wedding they asked the DJ not to play all those cheesy dance songs, etc...no one got up and danced. The reception was boring and everyone spent the night outside smoking.

I know this isn't true of everyone's crowd, but it is something to think about. Even though we may roll our eyes and cringe when one of those songs is played, they DO help get people out on the dance floor, and can potentially lead to a more enjoyable evening.

@Kari - I didn't say no rap or hip/hop. I said no gangster rap, where they talk about b*tches and hoes, money, violence, and cars. I am completely okay with some hip hop.

I said "NO COUNTRY" enthusiastically. My hubs and I just can't stand it... sorry. We also have a strict no pop music unless otherwise specifically named category too. We're all about playing music every1, including us, will love- and we're music snobs. So we mostly are sticking w/80-90's dance music- that seems to please every1.

The only thing I actually don't want at my wedding is no country. I don't like country and neither does FH. I don't mind all those fun silly songs. As a couple others have said they get people on the dance floor.

I know my crowd and there is never a party without the electric slide, cha cha slide or the wobble, it's just how my family is. With that being said I just have no rock being played. Country will be played throughout our ceremony and my father/daughter dance is a country song.

My main requirement for my DJ is do not play any songs with cursing, they all need to be edited versions.

Absolutely no country music even if my guests begged, I can't stand that crap. I made one exception for "I Got Friends In Low Places" by Garth Brooks. Otherwise I didn't really list anything else specifically. Instead I mainly mentioned the kind of songs I knew my friends and family liked and the vibe I was going for. The DJ never had to play any of the cheesy group dances.
