Wedding Color Question!

I am having trouble with my wedding colors. I am planning my wedding by myself and I need advice on what color goes with yellow. Yellow is my favorite color. If you have any suggestions, let me know! Thanks!

There are a lot of colors that go well with yellow. Bright blue or green, pinks, purples etc. What is you FH's favorite color?

His favorite color is red. But, when I think of red and yellow together. I think of McDonalds. He has been so great that he doesn't care what color we use. He suggested black and we have a bumble bee theme but I wasn't sure. I think what I need to do is just find some color swatches and see how they go together. I think purple would be great with yellow but I dont want the color to be too girly. (jw, what does the flowers below our pic mean?)

I love the yellow and white and if you like purple use a splash of a very dark but vivid purple for accent. I think that would be wonderful.

I was thinking of yellow and white too and you can put s plash of almost any color that way. And if he likes red why dont you do like a grooms cake with red colors? He might like that. Or something for him :)

Yellow and gray can be very sophisticated and chic. Yellow and white is crisp, fresh and clean. Black and white damask with yellow accents makes for a very dramatic and bold statement. But a lot can depend on what shade of yellow you like as well :)

Are you near Cincinnati? We do a string quartet version of the Coldplay song "Yellow." (Maybe we should also do "A Taste of Honey" LOL)

My sister did yellow, black and white. Her flowers were sunflowers and her cake was in black and white. I wore a black dress and had sunflowers.

My first vote would be blues... they go awesome.
Next would be something along the line of a dark peach or apricot color.
Yellow is an easy color to work with.
Good Luck

you can always use yellow and black as you mentioned, then add something like green, orange, or whatever as an accent so you dont have to have the bumblebee theme

Purple is in for this spring and if you did a deep purple it would look really nice!

Yellow, pewter and splashes of green look gorgeous.
Yellow and purple look too much like easter and yellow and black are a bit raw together (think bumble bee).

The first thing I thought of was yellow and gray (or silver). It's so modern and fun.

I think dark purple is a great combination for yellow, but if you think that is too girly, I would go with brown and orange. I would not choose gray, they are too different colors, there is not enough contrast between them in my opinion.

Yellow is actually a great "base" color - such as white.
Citrus yellows and oranges are looking like the hottest colors for 2010
You can add pinks, oranges, blues, greens or purples - almost any colors you'd like as an accent
Our DIY boxes in yellow can be accented with any color you'd like:

Here is an example of yellow, black and white as well!

I think it you want to use yellow as your "main" color and need another complementary color that doesn't compete, or look like a bumble bee (black), then I would go with brown. I've done a couple of weddings with that color scheme and it looks great together.

purples and blues are complete compliments of yellow!! you can use pinks and greens..
but if you just use suttle hints of purple or dark blues..it will really make your yellow pop!!!!! :) good luck!!

Depend on the Tone of the "Yellow"....Pale yellow or "Butter cream"...Looks stunning with Baby Blue... or a Rasberry pink.
Bright yellow....mates well with Oranges and Cobalt blue.
Have fun!

I think all these posts offer great ideas on colors to go with yellow. And if you like purple, as others have mentioned, it not only accents yellow beautifully, but is soooo popular and on-trend right now.
For your groom's cake how about doing something either based on a hobby, sport, or his alma mater? Hopefully between his interests and personal history you can find something relevant that includes red. Then take that idea to some creative bakeries/cakeries and see what ideas they have.
Best wishes!

You can do yellow and light yellow or yellow and white or brown.
I love lilac so I did BM dresses in lilac, the FG's dresses are white with lilac sashes and my table centerpieces are light and dark orchids. Since my dresses is candlelight, my bouquet will be calla lillies with a few orchids.
Also, look at various wedding sites and magazines and pull out anything you like. Review your choices in a few weeks and see which ones you still like.

I think you might take in consideration of where you are having the wedding... and well you are close to the summer on your wedding... It also matters what kindof shade of yellow you are talking about. I love mixing gold and light yellow with a vivid color.
If your place is around lots of plants... maybe vivid yellow with shades of green will go.
If its around the beach or lake maybe a vivid yellow with light shades of blue so your yellow is the main theme color.
If its more of an elegant wedding... you might choose shades of brown (ivory/Chocolate are my favorite) with the shades of yellow... You mix them this way: If you are using the light yellow you use the dark brown. If you use the dark yellow you combine it with the light brown. It wan also compliment with chocolate treat.Mmmm. You can think of it this way... you are working with the full plant. The steam is brown the petals are yellow!!! This one is my favorite can also be mixed in the beach theme since sand is brown
