Hire Person to set up and take down decorations?

Michelle, on March 7, 2019 at 11:57 AM Posted in Style and Décor 7 22

Is there a place you can hire to decorate and take all the decorations home until after the wedding? I know there are companies that will do it with their own decorations, but what If you are using your own?

What about hiring a guest’s kids? Teen kids of your boss, neighbor or mom’s BFF?

You could definitely reach out to a DOC but they might be expensive and you’ll want more than one person.

Good idea! We had a DIY wedding & local reception. We should have found the money to hire help. Major pain & stress even with 2 helpers for our DW & 4 helpers at our local reception. We build/bought too many props/decor. 🤨

Look into a DOC. If the cost factor is right and you find their services necessary, I have heard they are so very worth it.

We didn't use one, and for us - our venue helped us take care of storing, setting up and helping us take down any decorations. If your venue doesn't do that, see if you can hire someone you know, locally. For us, we had some guests' family members who actually volunteered to help (moms of bridesmaids, sisters of guests, etc.) with any set up or take down. People that knew us well enough to want to wish us well and say congrats, but didn't necessarily feel they should attend the wedding itself.

We hired a day of coordinator for this exact reason. We basically hired them to set up and take down, they wanted to throw some other "planning" stuff in, but honestly we have all of that done! All the vendors hired, all figured out, we have our DIY decorations and seat covers and sashes. They will be providing 6 hours of service that includes setting up and "possibly" taking down unless time runs out. So they will be setting up the chairs, (venue will set tables and serve ware). center pieces, ceremony arch etc. We are paying 750....but in our eyes that is extremely worth it for an easy morning!

Ugh! This has been a point of stress for me and my DIY wedding. I'm still trying to figure it out.

Due to the location of our ceremony/reception, we can't set up early or store our items there. And we have 30 minutes to get everything cleaned up Smiley sad

Our "venue" does come with a DOC, but she isn't a DOC in the full sense of the word. She will set up but will not store/carry the decorations with her and we will be responsible for clean up.

I think the idea about hiring some teens or college kids is a good one. I 've also seen that people look on Craigslist.

UGH. I wasn't happy with the amount of set-up/tear-down work of a DIY wedding--for us or the few friends who helped us out. Smiley cry

We had venue DOCs but you're right, they don't help with your own decor set-up. Yikes, what happens if you need more time to clean up???? How much set-up time do you get? We had 4 hours for our DW and 2.5 hours for our local reception and we BARELY made it on time (actually, we held guests back for 20 minutes from entering our local reception which honestly sucked and was "bad" on our end).

    Get help, lots of it.

1 hour for set up which is laughable!! BUT it's helped curb my extravagant Pinterest dreams lol. Our ceremony/reception will be on a yacht so we're going with simple but classic accents. Nothing too big since it's a charming space already.

1 hour????? Yikes. lol, good for you for reworking your decor vision. Oooh, a yacht will be so fun and beautiful anyway. It won't need much decor.

We hired a "Day Of Coordinator" for this. We aren't actually doing many decorative items. Our florist will put out the centerpieces and isle décor and our coordinator will put out the candles, Mr. & Mrs. sign, the card box, the guest book, the "unplugged ceremony sign" etc. and she and her assistant will also direct guests to different areas and basically make sure everything runs smoothly. because we already have all of the planning done and the timeline made, she gave us a major discount so we are only paying her about $200 but we will have to pack up our selves since she won't be there long enough. That said a lot of the packing up will already be done and other bits the venue will take care of as clean up

We hired an event service! They will set up decorations and tables, prep the buffet and keep it replenished and clean. Cut and serve our cake, pour champagne for our toast and remove decorations and sweep and mop! I was so happy to find this service and it really took a lot off my plate because I didn’t want to set up the reception area when I should be getting ready or clean up in my wedding dress after!!
More than happy to give you the company name if anyone is interested!

Yes absolutely and since I haven't left a review yet (waiting on photos to come in) I want to tell you now her and her husband are truly the absolute best for the following reasons and so much more!

    1. We truly wanted to just hang out and talk to them forever! They are so much fun and such an amazing couple!

    2. She was so amazing at keeping control of everything. She was tough and crafty and imaginative and just very very good at her job!

    3. her husband is hilarious (really calmed nerves) and an amazing singer (he sang while we walked down the isle and while we cut the cake)

    4. She charges so much less than she should but offers so much! (we paid less than $600 total I think and she did ceiling décor, centerpieces, a back drop for photos, day of coordination, some planning leading up to, coordination of the rehearsal dinner, and had to travel to us and stay in town at a hotel)

We got 2 bartenders and 4 servers for $1465 and that’s for 8 hours. We also added on a drink tent as well so we could save the inside space for dancing! Are you in Colorado?

That is often one of the duties of a day of coordinator

Does the DOC do breakdown or would they find staff to hire for help?

Typically they do and most have their own team they bring with them. Ask during the interview.
