It has a lot to do with the dress IMO. For me I am hoping for a birdcage veil. Do you have a dress in mind yet?

I originally didn't want a veil, just flowers in my hair, but my mother was not pleased! So in the end I got an inexpensive single tier finger length veil that I wore in the ceremony and for pictures. Then I removed it for the dinner and reception.

I actually really like veils for weddings and think they can really add to the dress! Just didn't think I wanted one at first!

I originally said NO veil. There's very little detail on my dress, except on the very back around the zipper, and I didn't want to cover that up. Plus I want to wear my hair down and didn't want a veil to mess that up either. But then FS's cousin offered to make me a bird cage veil, so I think I'm going to do that.. She's really good at what she does, and it would mean a lot that she made it Smiley smile It's going to be something like the picture I'm attaching, but further back.

Sorry I should have clarified -- I was just asking in general. (Sorry still getting used to this site!)

Personally, I'm not going to do one. I'm going to do something like one of these for my hair...

I'm kinda anti-veil myself. My Nana was not happy with that at first but I told her I really didn't get what they symbolized, I thought it was all about purity and virginity which certainly does not apply to me. It just felt un-natural and weird to wear one. She said she would send me some info on what it means...and after looking into it, she decided she didn't like the veil idea either! There's all types of supposed origins, a lot of them having to do with the bride being the grooms property and purposefully concealing the brides appearance in arranged marriages etc.

Of course a lot of modern brides just think they're pretty...

I haven't decided. I did purchase a very simple one, but I have a tiara I plan to wear. I may wear both, with the veil attached very low in the back.

I decided no on the veil.... I just want my hair down and a tiara instead.... My mom and my sister freaked when I told them, but I said that I want to look nice and I really can't see a veil that would look on me... and I don't like things in my face anyways. I MAY do a birdcage but I seriously doubt it

Has everything to do with the dress. My dress is very traditional so I'm having the traditional long veil and blusher. But if I had a mermaid, like i originally wanted, totally would have gone with a birdcage. I love them!

Alexandra -- your dress/veil is beautiful and looks perfect together! I can now see why having the dress first can really depend if I'm going to do a veil or not. I thought against it at first, but having both POVs on this has helped me keep an open mind.

I did a 50/50 with the whole veil thing. Instead of wearing the veil for the whole time I wore it through the cermony and that was it. It came off after the ceremony. I didn't want a veil but am glad I did it the way I did. Here are a couple of pics. One from the ceremony and one from after ...Oh and I didn't buy a veil. I used a blusher instead. Its the same as a veil it just had a different name on the tag. oooh and its cheaper.

I like that idea! I didn't think veils were right for beach ceremonies but seeing yours changed my mind. Thanks Smiley smile

I did not want a veil either but my dress screamed for one and my mom found one with the same exact crystals in it as my dress has in the skirt. it is breathtaking. Smiley smile

You can take some gorgeous photographs with a vail. Some of my favorite images from my own wedding are photos I took with my hubby and I kissing under my vail. Once I arrived to the location, I took my vail off and partied with out it. I think if you have it for the ceremony and some photographs after, then take it off for the reception, you get the best of both worlds.

I was not going to get a veil. I was almost anti-veil, but then I got the dress and they put one on me and now, I have a veil. (which i will take off after the ceremony.)

I'm definitely a veil girl. It's your ONLY chance to ever wear one, so I'm taking it! If it starts to bother me, I'll take it off for the reception.

I am going to wear a veil (elbow length.) When FH and I decide to re-new our vows (we love the idea and meaning behind renewals, plan on doing one in about 20 years.) For our renewal in the future Im not going to wear a veil. I love the idea of wearing a veil for the original wedding and then not wearing one for a renewal.

I bought my veil off ebay for $40 then had my tailor add the same lace that was on my dress to it. sooooooo it was 2 totally different types of lace but no one stared at the veil & was like OMG!!!
