Rustic/Woodsy theme...We are hunters

mrsrussell, on May 20, 2015 at 12:20 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 20

We are hunters...but I'm not doing a redneck wedding. I am doing a lot of DIY. We have collected lots of old galvanized buckets, wash tubs and old wooden crates. I have a lot of ball jars. Also i have a bunch of antlers and shotgun shells.

I was just wondering if anyone else is having a rustic/woodsy theme and what you are planning on doing for decor?

We had more of a glam woodsy theme (definitely not hunters here Smiley smile), but it sounds like some of your decor items would have fit in at our (also DIY) wedding.

We put twinkle lights and moss in our ball jars to make it look like it was full of lightning bugs, and our cake had a deer design painted on it. Lots of pine cones, wood candle holders, and more woodsy, textured flowers like dahlias and zinnia (no roses!)

    Love that cake!

In Alberta our official wildflower is a rose, lol.

I just came because I had a random idea that we didn't use at my wedding since it was inside. During the recessional instead of having people blow bubbles/throw rice/confetti, you could do pressed leaves, and paint some of them gold or silver. I have no idea if this helps, but I thought I'd share anyway. Maybe it's goofy.

Awesome! In August I bet there are so many wildflowers blooming Smiley smile

Here are my jars-- one photo from the ceremony and one from the reception (you can see the taller jar in the back of the photo).

We are doing kind of a rustic/woodsy themed DIY wedding, I don't really know what to call it, but it kind of fits that name! I'm using the wood slabs for under the centerpieces and I've collected a ton of the antique blue mason jars, I'm using them for my centerpieces. I'm growing my own dahlias for flowers. If all goes as planned, my girls will have individual dinner plate dahlias (12" blossom) for their bouquets. Here's a pic of my inspiration for the centerpieces, I'll also have 5 votives around the wooden slab and different flowers.

FI is super into hunting. We are having a rustic/nature vision. Here are a little of our inspirations. We were thinking of October 2016. We still have a ways to go though so we are saving as much as possible.

I am having a rustic/vintagy theme but it sounds like are looking at similar stuff. I am having lots of burlap, lanterns & birdcages. We are having it outdoors so keeping our wedding colors pretty neutral. I am planning to use a lot of succulents and greenery as well.

YAY!!!! Someone said "WE are hunters" not "HE is a hunter"

    YAYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hokay, so.

We're serving elk that I harvested. We're doing sheds (elk, mule & whitetail) on the table on moss with wildflower arrangements. Our cake topper are two deer. I had deer on the wedding invitation (and actually had someone call back and say "Um, the silhouetted deer on your invitations are white tail, not mule, you know that?" - I love my friends).

Other than that it's all wedding-y. But here is a picture of my cake topper.

Also, I'm dying - I too went to my florist and said "Wildflowers, NO ROSES" and it says that on my quote. 'NO ROSES.'

My FH is a hunter as well. I'm not doing camo theme or anything, but I may do camo or shotgun shell boutonnieres and I'm definitely doing antlers with my mason jar centerpieces. Similar to this...

Ahhh MissNC we're centerpiece twins Smiley smile

Where did you ladies get your antler sheds? I found some on etsy, but they sold out. Then I found some on eBay but I'm afraid of ordering from a poacher.

You can tell the difference between sheds and those that were cut off - see that nub at the bottom? Those are natural sheds, so a poacher isn't a concern.

I find my all the old fashioned way - we shed hunt! Ask your FH, he should be shed hunting for you!!

SO EXCITED! I just ordered my cake topper! I've wanted this since before we even lived together, let alone got engaged. I was holding off because Campmor ran out of stock, Amazon was too pricey and the other site that had it I didn't trust. Campmor had it back in stock! I'm leaving the Mrs as is since I hike, but I'm painting the Mr. in hunting camo and I'm going to look for a gun or crossbow to add to it. Might try and find a shiba inu (our dog) figurine for it too. They have this hunting couple as well, but since I'm blonde and don't hunt I didn't like it as much

M we live in NJ. The deer population is high, but the shedding isn't. He looks believe me! It's like a needle in a hay stack

I believe that, nothing like overpopulation to ruin everything for everyone!

I know you can buy them online, but they're SOOOO expensive, and one of the reasons I'm doing them is we have dozens, and our caterer's husband is a hunter too and has literally hundreds. So, we good there.

We're in the CO Rockies, so you can find all kinds of shit here.

We are doing a rustic/woodsy theme and we are using a lot of pine-cones, wheat, cat tails, burlap and ball jars for our decor. These are what I am making for my BM bouquets...

I went to a wedding that used shot gun shells at name holders on each table. They cut a little slit in the top of each shell and put a piece of paper in it! Super adorable.
