Instead of rice...
I know you're not supposed to throw rice anymore anyway. At most weddings I've been to you blow bubbles instead, but I found this neat idea on esty of giving your guests ribbons instead, and they can wave them as you go by (no mess, and the guests can keep them!) I think I'll get them if my budget will allow it. I first found polka dot ones, they were almost $100 for a pack of 50. Then I found just colour ones for half the price, so as much as I love polka dots, that isn't worth it to me!

What, if anything, are you doing 'instead of rice'?

Ribbon wands are very popular here on weddingwire it seems. They are also very easy to DIY.

I've seen a couple gals on here with DIY posts for ribbon wands. It's a super cute idea! I'm not a fan of bubbles...especially if you're exiting on a slick surface. when the bubbles land, you need to be extra careful you don't accidentally slip. I love the idea of rose petals or even bird seed...though I'd be terrified the bird seed would get chucked into my eye or something.

I forgot about sparklers Heather! Those are awesome if you're leaving at a good dark time.

I'm making my own ribbon wands.
I think I've spent about $20 total.
I just got a pack of 100 skewers, and ribbon from the dollar store
hot glue gun and that's it!
