Hobby Lobby Invitation trouble!!! Anyone else??

CJ, on April 23, 2011 at 11:38 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 19

So my mom and I decided to go the cheaper route and buy invitations at Hobby Lobby. They are REALLY cute, but nowhere will print on them!!!! They said that the paper isn't laser jet quality... I have called Hobby Lobby to check on this and they say "Everyone asks us that and we just don't know if they are or not." Great. So my mom has tried 5 other print shops and same thing, NO! There iso ne hopefull that is putting together a mock up and I will show pics if it works...

Pleasssse let it work Smiley sad

Have you tried printing them yourselves in an inkjet printer? Might not look as nice, but I think that is what the intention is when HL packaged them, to print at home.

We got ours at party city, and printed them at home. That's the point of the ones you buy in the store.... Are there printing directions included?

We bought ours at Michael's with the intention of getting them printed at Kinko's. Kinko's and all office stores said they were too small to print them on their printer. I ended up printing them on our printer at home and they came out beautifully!

Have you tried printing on a home printer? Normally, that is the easiest way to go with those invitation sets from Hobby Lobby, Michael's, etc.

I got mine from Hobby lobby and printed them from home, had to mess with the printing properties to get it to work. I chose from the print prop. options "specialty paper" and 5x8 index card. They are awesome!

Yeah, I understand they are for printing at home, we just thought it would look nicer/be easier to have them printed! But I will have to use my home printer I am guessing unless some miracle happens! Good to know that all of yours turned out so nice, it gives me hope!!

Ours are from Michaels, and we had them professionally printed at a local print shop (because I would stress way too much and ultimately ruin them). They said it was no problem.

I had the exact same problem with the invitations we bought from AC Moore...no professional printer could/would print them. We ended up having to print them at home. Make sure you check your ink levels before you start so that it doesn't fade in the middle of the job!

It keeps primting off to the side of the paper and not the middle! Every other one is in the middle... Or every 2..

When you buy blank invitations at a craft store or online, the general intention is that you are going to print them yourself. Most printers won't print on your paper. They'll tell you it's the quality of the paper but really, they don't want to be responsible if they mess up your paper and it's probably not worth the effort for them.

Templates provided by companies are often times incorrect and you need to tweak it. Don't test on the invitations. Test the print out on regular paper and hold it up against the invite to see if it's correct. I do this with labels that I often print at work.

I got my invitations for hobby lobby and printed it at home. It went well. The margin are already set in the templates. To print them correctly, you have to adjust the edge guider ( black slider where the paper go) to the size of the paper.

Had horrible experiences with invitations not printing on the printer.. put in specialty paper, tweaked the paper size, fit to print, everything I could think of and the printer would sometimes grab the paper and sometimes get it right regardless if I did a test printer. It was a nightmare. I found a small local printer who was willing to take the risk. Saved my sanity!!
