Flower delivery or pick up

mimitrue, on November 16, 2015 at 2:39 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 8

So my FH just got let go from his job and we are 55 days away from getting married. Awesome timing. Luckily we have almost everything paid off except our florist. She didn't want to take final payment until closer to the date so now we are making some cuts. We are cutting the gazebo decor since it's already decorated in tulle and have cut $300 that way. We don't have anything for her to set up since it's just bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages and loose red roses to put in vases that we are providing the venue. She offered for us to pick them up instead of doing the $160 delivery charge. What are your thoughts on this? Should the flowers still be delivered by her or is it ok to pick them up ourselves?

I would pick them up. That way if there's anything wrong, you can correct it right then and there. Plus it wouldn't be worth 160 to have them delivered. UNLESS, the florist is miles away in heavy traffic, then it might be worth it.

The florist is about 35 miles away from our venue. But my parents live near her office.

Can you coordinate to have your parents pick them up? Are you doing your own setup?

If you are doing your own set up, I'd say pickup. However, I do help H with delivery and setup for our florist from our wedding for some of the weddings she does and holy cow we do a lot. That being said, I know it helps to have someone arranging the floral, centerpieces etc.

We aren't really doing much flowers. What we have are bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages and loose red roses to stick in vases we have around venue. We don't have floral centerpieces or anything that needs to be set up per se. But there's always that fear that something will go wrong if someone who is not a professional picks them up and brings them to us. We have 9 bouquets, 21 boutonnieres, 9 corsages and 100 loose red roses to be picked up. It's a garden estate already so we didn't do much "flower" decor.

I would ask your parents if they could pick them up. $160 for delivery is ridiculous. My florist was 40 minutes away and delivered for $50.

If you have somebody you trust that can do the pickup and take charge of placing the loose roses, then definitely forego the delivery.

Personally I have no idea how one would go about transporting 9 bouquets so I guess look into that as well.
