Engagement Ring 24/7

Jennifer, on November 16, 2014 at 2:46 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 55

A girlfriend/BM of mines, that is also engaged, told me I am not supposed to take my engagement ring off EVER that its bad luck. She said she's been camping, swimming, showers, cleans house and even sleeps in hers. I usually wear it all day take it off before going to bed. I don't think its a huge deal and my FH also thought my friend/BM advice was a little silly but I am wondering if there is any advice on this topic.

The only time I take mine off is when I shower in case it falls down the drain or if I'm going into a pool with chlorine. Words of advice though, im a teacher and work with hand sanitizer a lot and bleach and I accidentally discolored my e-ring, so maybe cleaning I would take it off too. Unless its something like that I don't take it off, I also sleep in mine. I don't think it is bad luck though and your reasoning sounds like for the safety of your ring, which is good. If you wear it all the time then you get my ring that also has a small diamond now missing :/

I don't really take mine off. When I start clinical I will take it off before starting and put it back on after leaving for hygiene reasons.

I take mine off every time I shower, wash my hands, clean the house and while I'm at work (bartender...alcohol and washing dishes). My e-ring is black gold which is a plating. Just the oils from my hand has begun to wear it off. I would rather preserve my ring than worry about bad luck.

I take mine off to shower, wash dishes, and to work out (if I'm using weights and machines because I don't want it to get damaged). If I am going for a run or walk I will wear it. I also don't sleep in mine being that I think its weird and uncomfortable to sleep in jewelry, but that is just me. I don't think its bad luck at all not to wear it 24/7.

I don't really believe that...I take mine off at the gym because I don't want it to get all scratched, and while I do the dishes.

I haven't heard that it's bad luck, but I feel like most women I know that have been married for a while (like my mom, other family members) wear their rings all the time, so I usually have mine on. I've gone swimming with the dog, showered, gone to the beach, and hike with the dog with it on, but I usually take it off to clean. When it was warmer out I slept with it on, but lately I've been putting on a lot of lotion before bed and my fingers are just smaller, so I'm a little more concerned about it falling off when I sleep. I feel like whatever you're comfortable with is probably the right thing to do.

I take mine off to shower (etc.) and to bake. That's about it. If I were to swim or go to the beach, I'd leave it home too.

I've heard from a jeweler that sleeping with the ring can loosen the setting. I don't sleep, clean, workout, or shower with mine. Just to be on the extra side of caution. I have a special place that it always goes to as well. I have never heard that it's bad luck. I think there's a difference in taking off your ring to be careful vs. taking it off if you're mad/upset/fighting etc with your fiancé.

I only take mine off to shower. I wouldn't worry too much about bad luck.

I'm in the minority here, but I wear mine 24/7. Not because of bad luck, but because I'm terrified of losing it. I only take it off to put lotion on my hands or clean it. I wear rubber gloves when I'm cleaning the house or doing dishes, so it's protected.

I take mine off to shower, wash dishes and to cook (if I'm handling raw meats). I sleep with it on.

I wear my e-ring all day but take it off sometimes - I take it off to do dishes and when I shower, and then I leave it off as I do my hair and makeup since I don't want to get it all gunked up! Other than that, I wear it all the time including when I sleep. Its totally personal preference. Just be careful not to lose it- I bought little ring holders to put next to our bathroom sink. I would also take it off before going in the pool (chlorine) or the beach. I'm not superstitious in any way, I want to protect my ring!

I don't wear mine when I know I'll be home for the night. Anytime I'm out I wear it

I take mine off as soon as I get home. I don't like wearing rings all that much. Zach wears his 24/7 though.

My engagement ring is rose gold, and very easily bent. I take it off when I sleep, or drive, or need to use my hands to grip anything.

I leave mine on, but not because I believe in 'bad luck' (puh-lease! It is much more likely to to bring bad luck to believe random events will change your fate!). Mostly it's cause I'm lazy. Smiley sexy

I wear my e-ring all the time. I shower, cook, clean, horse back ride (and everything that goes along with barn chores) and even went surfing with it on. The only time I take mine off is when I go to boxing because you really can't punch stuff with your ring on and not hurt yourself LOL.

I don't believe that its bad luck.

I take mine off when I shower, yet leave it on when I take the kiddos to the pool... I take it off when I get dirty with paper machee and kneeding bread or something but leave it on for washing dishes...I don't know why, its just how I've done it lol.

    I always sleep with it.

I have a friend though that neither of them wear their bands or rings unless they are going to a function or something.
