Convertible bridesmaid dresses, a good buy?!

Future Mrs. M, on September 12, 2012 at 8:53 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

I have been searching and searching for bridesmaid dresses and have not found any that I love. Also, I have the issue that some dresses won't look good on all of my bridesmaids. I stumbled upon the convertible dresses from two birds and thought that would be PERFECT for my bridesmaid. Unfortunately, two birds is a little too expensive especially since I am already asking them to travel to Hawaii for my wedding. I found a convertible dress from dessy group that looks identical to the ones from two birds and is much more affordable.

I don't think there is a store that has this dress so my girls can go try them on, which makes me a little nervous about them! I was wondering if anyone has used the convertible dress before for a bridesmaid dress? Are they nice? Do they run too big, too small, or just right? I'd appreciate any information anyone can give on these dresses! Thanks Smiley smile

There have been quite a few convertible dress threads lately. There was a Living Social deal for them, might still be active.

I was going to go with a convertible dress, but it looks funny on my and my MOH. We have large chests and small everything else's. However, many ladies on here have had success with convertible dresses for their girls.

You can have them custom made to size from some vendors on Etsy, and I believe they'll cost less that way, as well.

I have not seen them in person myself but I took a chance with an Etsy seller because I just fell in love with them. She is reasonably priced and offers tons of colors and a few different lengths. She can also send fabric swatches so you can be absolutely sure of color beforehand. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping they look just as good on my girls (both are "average" shaped/size) as they do in pics.

I decided on the convertible dresses for my girls! They are black and I got them online at target.com for $35 each. My girls go from S to XL along with having big boobies lol. I purchased the dresses for my girls as one of their gifts since they were such a good price!!!

I'm surprised you don't have a dessy retailer near you, they're all over the place! Have you called all the bridal shops they list?

No, I haven't called any of the bridal shops. Do they list them on their site? I browsed through so fast I must have missed where it shows the shops that have their dresses!

I think convertable dresses are great. They're also reusable.

I just decided on convertible dresses for my girls today! I wanted them to have a dress that they could wear again. I hate those "wear once" fugly bridesmaid dresses in a off the wall color no one would dare wear again! LOL

Here is my only issue with them, some of my girls are heavy with super big bewbs and most of the deigns call for no bra, and the ones that do, many times you can see the bra anyways. I would suggest having a try-on first.

YES! I love them and have for years. I love that they all match but can express different styles! I actually gave my maids several options and everyone was excited about the infinity wrap style! I have wanted one for myself just to have. I too was obsessed with twobirds but refused to ask anyone to buy a $300+ dress!!

I did order mine on etsy for much less, however the swatch she sent me when I reserved them was much different than what they were made out of. I ordered plum, it was a great dark purple, not too red, not too blue. So now, one month before my wedding, the dresses don't match the tux's or anything for that matter... they are much more red!! They shipped a month late and she lost my MOH's measurements TWICE!! I chose the retailer based on her 100% positive reviews. But it was such a mess I don't know how that is possible?! She apparently didn't have trouble rushing other orders before making mine.

The shop was called "Restoration Threads" now known as "MadeStudio"

So far the dresses seem great, I just would not recommend that shop in particular. No bride needs that extra stress!

Oh and did I mention that she didn't tell me that she was missing a dress order until the day before she was supposed to ship them! (well for the 3rd time that she said she was going to ship them") So they were already a month late when I found out she lost an order! AND that is the same time she finally decided to mention to me "don't be surprised when you get them in the mail, the color is different than the swatch I originally sent you" Oye....

If the girls have large...girls lol, then just have them get matching bandeau tops. It'll cover their bras and allow them to wear just about whatever design they choose to.

I'll second the bandeau top. It's the only way I can even try to wear the dress, though finding more than the one style so far has been a pain. :/

I love the wrap dress! I would love to get them for my girls through the living social deal, I am just not sure if it can get here in time!

My BMs are using them. I liked the fact that there are so many different options to wear the dress so they could each wear whatever they liked the best. Plus (and I hate this cliche, so take it with a grain of salt) you can wear the dress again and it actually looks like a different dress because you can wrap it differently. Not the main reason I got them, but a nice perk.

I have a convertible dress and I will say they can be a bit awkward. If you want to wear a bra with it, your style options are pretty greatly limited. However, I still really think they're worth the price.

Our convertible dresses were just perfect! The bridesmaids looked gorgeous and were all so happy in them. (See more pics here: http://www.oneloveoneday.net/2013/04/four-girls-one-dress.html)

Http://www.tinnainfinitydress.com was an excellent purchase!!! Ordered a 5 set of High Low Infinity Bridesmaid dresses, three different colors and needed them sent to three different states. No problem there! Even received our dresses on the same day and nearly TWO WEEKS EARLY!!!!!! Thank you so much for all the assistance through the ordering process and for answering my questions promptly. The dresses are so comfy!! The material is light and stretchy and fit each girl great, even though we only ordered the generic Medium and Larges instead of customizing our waist size. Was a little worried, but the dresses fit each of the girls great, maybe because the fabric is so nice! Would highly recommend ordering the bandeau for more coverage, not just in the front but for the back as well. Without, I do not know if we would love them as much! The just look so good! The Bride actually loves them so much, she wants to get one for herself now!
