Questions to Ask Your Wedding Planner

Q: What areas do you serve?

A: Seattle, and the Greater Seattle area

Q: What is your experience? How long have you been a wedding planner, how many weddings have you done?

A: I have been planning weddings and other events since 2004, I have assisted in approximately 100 weddings and have recently decided to spread my wings by starting my own wedding planning business.

Q: What budgets do you work with?

A: Any budget, I have planned weddings from $5,000. - $ 65,000.

Q: How many other weddings will you be planning for that same weekend? This is very important, you want to make certain that she’ll be available to you!

A: I only schedule one wedding per weekend, I want to be available for you, not to mention any more than one a weekend would be exhausting!

Q: Will you be doing the “day-of” coordination and will you have staff? Find out if there are extra charges for extra staff.

A: All packages with the exception of consultation only services include day of coordination. I have some additional staff available if needed. There is no additional fee, all fees are included in your contract price.

Q: How much do you cost? Does the wedding planner charge a flat fee, an hourly, etc. What is her payment schedule, is it all due up front? Does she charge extra for referrals, a “finders fee”?

A: Packages are all inclusive at a flat fee depending on package selection. Consultation only services purchased without a package are provided at an hourly rate. All fees are included in your contract price, there are no additional fees for referrals, after all that’s what your already paying me for!

Q: Do you work with vendors regularly that offer discounts?

A: I do work with a variety of vendors that offer me 5-10% discounts, I work with photographers that offer a larger discount.

Q: What happens if you have an emergency and can’t make it to my wedding? Do you have an assistant or a back-up?

A: I do have back-up in the unlikely event that I can’t make it to the wedding, however I am extremely reliable and have yet to have such an emergency come up.

Q: Can you tell me about something that went wrong at a wedding you planned and how you handled it? How do you deal with stress?

A: A florist once canceled the morning of a wedding; I took a deep breath, ran to the wholesale flower store, called in two assistants and did the flowers ourselves. It was high stress, the centerpieces were not exactly as planned, but it looked wonderful and the bride was extremely pleased.

Q: What are five words you would use to describe yourself?
A: Honest, organized, witty, creative and smart.

Q: Can you name the best and most original locations in your area? Are you familiar with the best florists, photographers, caterers, bands, and DJs in my price range?

A: We have an extensive list of professional vendors at varying price ranges at our fingertips. This list is constantly being updated and we only refer people who consistently deliver high quality service and products.

Q: Will you commit to my budget and not push me in the direction of things I simply can't afford or don't want?


A: We understand that each client has a different amount they are comfortable spending on their event and we are committed to working within the financial boundaries you set. We ensure that you get the most for what you are able to spend. We will also listen to your desires and help you create an event that reflects who you are and what you value.

Q: Do you accept commissions, kickbacks or professional discounts from any vendors you refer? Do you mark up or keep a percentage of the vendor fees? Who signs the vendor contracts?

A: No. We do not believe that accepting commissions for a referral is in the best interest of our clients. We also do not sign contracts on behalf of our clients and never mark up vendor fees or add a "sourcing fee" to their prices.

Q: Will you read over the vendor contracts for me?

A: Yes. We will always read over the vendor contracts before you sign them and point out any areas that may conflict with your best interest. We will also ask vendors to strike or add a clause, if necessary, before the contract is finalized and signed.

Q: Will you counsel me on etiquette matters?

A: Absolutely. We will advise on all matters relating to etiquette. In addition, we will let you know which "rules" can be bent and which should be left intact to ensure that you are a gracious host.

We are here to assist you in making your dream wedding a reality, we will not "take over" your wedding but will be as involved as you want us to be!
