Tips and Advice
Working with Caterers and Getting the Most Bang for Your Buck

When working with caterers, be open and honest regarding your expectations and budget.  This will allow a clear communication which will serve you well going forward.  Everyone wants a "wow" effect in one way or the other.  Unless you have unlimited funds, it is very important to mesh your vision with your targeted budget.   There are many ways to streamline without sacrificing a wonderful event.

What many novice clients may not realize is that the menu costs comprise less than 30% of the package associated with the costs of catering.   Costs such as staffing, bar, linen, transportation, decorations and consultations far outweight the cost of the menu.  Evenso, menu costs can be minimized if you closely analyze what you want in terms of cuisine selections -- dual vs single entrees; filet mignon and crab cakes vs  tenderloin and boneless breast of chicken are options to consider.

Establish a good rapport and maintain it.  Your caterer can lay the groundwork for a wonderful and lovely affair.  This is particularly easy when working with a hands-on caterer who has the ability to be creative as well as the power to make decisions which could truly enhance the outcome of the bottom line.
