Eco Friendly Atmosphere tips for your wedding
www.tammybecker.com Our goal is to help make your wedding a sleek and stylish event while leaving a smaller carbon footprint on the Earth. Here are some tips to help get you headed in the right direction. All it takes is some simple planning and a little ingenuity to make your event a fabulous eco friendly affair!
Floral Design• Use locally grown flowers! We have tons of local farms. Take advantage of the resources here in New England. • Rent out your vases. A great way to save a little money and save on waste. • Consider using multiple smaller vases for the centerpieces that can then be used as favors at the end of the night. • Pick your own blooms! There are many local farms that grow flowers for cutting in the summer, this can also cut costs. • Keep in mind most flowers are flown in from Holland, South America and Thailand to name just a few of the foreign countries. Using locally grown flowers can save tons on emissions. • Think about pesticides and investigate the origins of flowers that you’re interested in using. • Flowers are the most organic way to decorate with. You can’t go wrong especially when you do your homework. Other Décor Ideas • Use natural lighting if possible. If you can have your party during the day, take advantage of the outdoors or natural light. • If your party is in the evening, take advantage of candlelight. Soy candles can be used in the centerpieces. Soy candles burn longer, slower and emit less soot than paraffin candles. The soybeans are grown in America and are biodegradable. It’s romantic, it’s elegant, and it’s eco friendly! • Reduce & Reuse. The key to an eco and style conscious wedding is to simplify. Reusing materials doesn’t just save money, it saves resources. • Use topiaries or other green plants to decorate the ceremony and the reception. Ask about renting out the plants as oppose to buying them. Place Cards & Favors • Having place cards? Use recycled paper. Try your best to cut down the amount paper being used. • Use stones to write your guests names on, it looks great and it is a perfect organic alternative. • Hang your place cards from branches, a tree or a flowering plant. • Favors are a great place to get organic. You can use potted plants (you can also use this as a centerpiece idea) or have small terracotta pots with different types of seeds the guests can plant or even you can even use organic chocolate. • You can also make a donation in your guests’ names to an organization that plants trees, www.AmericanForests.org for instance. Or another organization of your choice. • Mini stalks of bamboo are always a favorite favor. |
