"Boy!! You blew away our expectations!! I have received so many compliments on our DJ selection. Phil's father actually fast-danced - UNHEARD OF! Michael, you are one of the first people I've worked with that surpassed all of their claims.  You really put my mind at ease because of how seriously you take each and every client's event and how much you love what you do.
Thanks you... loyal client for life.

"Mike and I were amazed by how wonderful the night turned out because of you.. you were our top vendor! You did everything I asked just perfectly... your energy and enthusiasm stayed alive the entire night. You made the vision I had of my wedding day come to life, and you also really helped to calm my nerves by making yourself available, returning all of my calls & answering all of my questions. You really covered all of the bases. I would highly recommend you to everyone I know."

Facts to consider:

Former wedding guests universally agree that the two biggest factors vital to a successful wedding reception are
the meal and the entertainment.

Amazingly, professional DJs typically cost between 5-10% of the total wedding budget: a real bargain considering their importance relative to their cost.

Contact us at 978-470-4700 or 781-488-3000 to discuss your specific musical entertainment requirements.  As soon as we know exactly what you want, we’ll send you our full information package and complimentary wedding reception planning guide.  We’ll also quote you a surprisingly affordable price without any uncomfortable sales pressure. At your request, we'll even arrange a no-obligation personal consultation with the actual DJ/MC you’ve selected as the best match for your musical tastes & budget, all before you make any decision. We believe every bride should be sure they've made the best choice possible before you book any vendor.

Our agency motto truly says it all:  “The Music Makes or Breaks the Wedding”!    Your perfect day is just a call away...

Tips and Advice
"Comparing DJ Prices!"

FACT: The single biggest mistake any engaged couple can make is to contact a bunch of DJs and ask only for their price.

Comparing DJs by price alone assumes that every DJ who quotes you a price has exactly the same experience, musical knowledge, equipment and professionalism, so the lowest price must be "the best deal".  Price shopping with no other information works fine when pricing the same model vaccum cleaner at 3 different stores, but not when deciding on the right entertainment for the biggest day of your life!  After reading this article, we hope that perhaps you will ask some other important questions as well.

Most consumers will agree that the cheapest price rarely equals the best quality... in anything.

Since every bride wants to find the best DJ possible at the best possible price, we'd like to offer some advice to help you make a sensible, informed decision.

Along with your DJ price inquiry, why not ask a few "tough" questions, just to expose and "weed out’ any DJ amateurs posing as professional DJs.

Once you are comparing only real, reputable, professional DJ services, it will be much easier to compare prices and select the right one to meet all your needs.

AllStar Entertainment can answer "YES" to all the following questions:

Personal Data
1) Are you a Full-Time DJ Company, not a Part-Time DJ company with 9-5 voice mail and a different "regular" job?
2) Does the DJ wear a Tuxedo at my wedding and arrive early enough be completely set-up before my guests arrive?
3) Do you provide reception planning services and walk clients through a chronological "timeline" prior to the event?
4) At my event, will you coordinate and work smoothly with all my other wedding vendors as a team player?

Service
1) Can I meet with the actual DJ who'll be at my wedding before I make a decision to hire your company?
2) Will you provide a booking contract and complete, detailed wedding planning forms for both ceremony & reception?
3) Do you accept all major credit cards for my deposit?
4) Do you guarantee in writing that the DJ I book will be the same DJ at my wedding?

Music
1) Do you carry only legally purchased music (rather than poor quality copies or illegal downloads) and cover all age groups and musical tastes?
2) Do you subscribe to a professional DJ music service that provides all the new pre-releases each week in every genre, right when the radio stations get them, automatically?
3) Do you carry a full library of classical music for wedding ceremonies and can you create special music mixes if needed for my wedding party introductions or first dance?
4) Do you have emergency back-up for your entire music library at every event, just in case?

Liability & Emergency Back-Up
1) Can you provide me with a copy of your DJ liability insurance? (Now required by major hotels & other venues to protect YOU if your DJ does damage to their property)
2) Will you carry a complete extra back-up DJ system and extra microphone with you to my event in case of equipment failure?
3) Can your wireless microphones operate at different frequencies, in case of a transmission conflict or frequency interference.
4) Do you have back-up transportation available as well?
5) Does your company have other equally qualified DJs available in case of an emergency situation arising on the day of my event?

Affiliations, References & Awards
1) Are you a member of the American DJ Association?
2)  Is your company a state-licensed entertainment agency with a $1,000 surety bond? (Required in MASS to book other DJs).
3) Can you provide me with multiple DJ reviews and satisfaction surveys as references from former wedding clients?
4) Have you won any verifiable awards in the wedding industry?

Finally... the price a true professional DJ quotes is based on a combination of many factors.

You wouldn't ask the caterer "How much for a meal?" They need to know what you want.
For a professional DJ, it’s not "one-price-fits-all" either. To quote a price, the minimum information we’ll need to know:

1) Where is the reception (name of venue, city & state)?
2) How many hours of DJ musical performance time do you need?  (not travel, set-up or break-down time.. but performance time)
3) Date of the event? (Since prices may be lower in off-season or on an off-day like Thursday etc)
4) Number of guests? (a Larger Sound System is needed for 450 guests versus only 75 guests)
5) Do you need any options? (Outdoor ceremony with a 2nd DJ system, extra overtime, a DJ partner, uplighting or stage lights, customized music etc...)

Beware of any DJ or DJ company that quickly quotes you a price without asking what you need... A "one price fits all" answer strongly suggests a "cookie cutter" approach where every wedding they book gets the same thing regardless of what you tell them you'd actually like... we hear about this all the time (after it's too late).

Whether or not you've made the right choice in professional DJ entertainment will be instantly obvious at your wedding, to you, all your guests and both families.

FACT:  "A cheap DJ is never exceptional, and an exceptional DJ is never cheap!"

We hope this helps you select the perfect DJ to entrust with the most important day of your life.... contact us with your details for a price quote today.  Thank you!

“Musical Requests & DJ Play Lists” by Michael Edwards

Requests can be placed into 3 categories to be chosen by you in advance:
1) a “must play” list,
2) a “please don’t play” list, and
3) a more flexible “this is the kind of music we like, so include as much as you can” list.

Music selection at the reception also requires an intangible skill from the DJ called “reading the crowd”
and then making constant adjustments based on the reactions of the audience throughout the event.
Successful song selection means incorporating the requests of the bride and groom, the guests and
the DJ’s own choices to make sure the right song is played at the right moment in order to pack the
dance floor all night long. Selecting all the reception music for your DJ in advance is a bit like telling
the executive chef how much salt he should put into the soup for 150 guests. It’s taking a very big
gamble doing something you’ve never done before, based completely on personal taste. A far better
solution is to hire someone with a proven track record and abundant "rave reviews" and testimonials
so you don’t really have to worry about every single song choice. In fact, strong references (like those
found for our AllStar DJs here on weddingwire.com) and a reputation for great service and value should
be of prime consideration when selecting all of your vendors.

"Sticking To YourBudget"

The true secret for success at any wedding reception is to hire the very best vendors you can afford.
How do you hire the best and still stick to your proposed budget?  Your total budget (100%) must cover
all expenses when added together. Divide the cost of any vendor or service by the total budget to get
the % of your budget allotted for that vendor or service.  Next, prioritize which expenditures are most
important to the success of your day (for instance, 50% on the meal, 10% on attire, 3% on flowers, etc)
and then adjust the budget % allowed for each vendor accordingly to always add up to 100%, and easily
adjust your budget as you go along.  You can actually hire one service that is a bit higher than your pre-set
budget % allowance, if you cut back on something else that’s less vital... and your total budget stays
exactly the same.
