Frequently Asked Questions for Photography
Do you offer special techniques such as hand-coloring or toning?
I provide color, black and white, or sepia options for my photos. I shy away from selective color or other special effects. I like to let the natural integrity of the photo shine through, rather than manipulating it.

Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?
Weddings provide ALL kinds of lighting situations. I am a natural light user, only pulling out my flash when absolutely necessary. I want to document how it actually looked and felt on your wedding day. A flash usually destroys that.

Is your media preference film or digital?
I prefer to use both Canon digital and funky film cameras since both offer a different feel and effect.

How many photographers do you work with?
I have a stable of trusted professionals that have become my friends and that I fully trust to shoot with me. I would prefer to think of them as another photographer at the event, rather than my "second shooter" or "assistant".

Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?
I, Jenny Smith, will always be at you wedding from start to finish.

Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend?
Your wedding day only happens once, and I firmly believe in dedicating my full attention to your whole day. So, no, I don't shoot more than one per day.

Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
Again, my stable of trusted photographers are always on hand in case of a dire emergency. But I have never needed them for the 150+ weddings in over 5 years of shooting.

What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of?
I bring a number of bodies, lenses, and extra equipment for whatever situation I am presented with. One of the skills I have is the ability to assess the lighting situation in a matter of minute and shoot accordingly.

Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction?
Absolutely!

Do you charge hourly or full day?
I would work with you ahead of time to determine the number of hours needed for your day and put together a package accordingly.

Are you available to shoot extra hours? If yes, how much do you charge for extra hours?
$250 per hour for 2 photographers

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
Except for quickly eating during your meal, no breaks are taken.

Do you charge for travel?
I love traveling just as much as I love weddings! I would be happy to cover your event wherever that may take me. I just ask that you pay for my travel needs.

How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing?
about 2-4 weeks!

In what format are the initial proofs offered?
2 weeks after your event, the best 100 photos are presented as 5x7 prints in a proof box. These photos have been extensively retouched (blemishes, reshaping, color correction, etc.) to show you the potential for all your photos. At about the four week mark, roughly 500 photos will be available for viewing and ordering through a private online gallery.

How long can the client keep the proofs?
The 5x7 proofs are yours to keep forever!

Do you retain the copyright for the photos?
Yes.

Do you reserve the right to publish the photos?
Yes.

Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the client?
Yes, I provide them on an 8 GB flash drive that is also yours to keep!

Will images be available for viewing online?
Yes.

What kind of albums do you offer?
I offer two kinds: a fine art coffee table book with archival matte pages that are scored and folded, providing truly panoramic design as well as a classic matted book providing individually placed and matted photographic prints. I love designing books just as much as shooting the wedding day. It provides a way to showcase the work for you and your family, and I enjoy the ongoing relationships with my clients that it naturally provides!

When will the client get the final album?
The predesign of your book is given to you at the same time you receive your proofs. From there we will work together to do a limited number of changes before the book is sent to be printed and bound. You will receive your book within a month after that.
