Your thoughts on a palm reader

Sara , on April 24, 2011 at 11:33 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

FH and I are not really dancers. Well actually I dance after several drinks while on vacations with the girls, but FH is definately a wallflower lol. Of course we will do the traditional stuff like a first dance and father/daughter, mother/son dance but I don't see the dance floor rocking even with a good DJ. In place I was thinking of creating a carnival theme with a photo booth, face painting, caraciture (sp) artist, and possibly a palm reader. Do you think a palm reader would offend anyone?

Nah I don't think it would offend anyone..if they aren't into it, they don't have to! I think that's a great theme and gives you a good excuse to add in those other things, sounds super fun! :-)

Depends. What's your crowd like? I'd say, if you're getting married in a church, probably not a good idea. If not, and you aren't religious (nor are your guests) it would be fine.

I think if you want to do this alternative reception, more power to you! I think the palm reader would be fine.

I know you didn't ask, but I have to say I'm not sure if people would be interested in something like face-painting. Unless you have a TON of kids, or friends you see enjoying something like that..

I would love it, but it depends on your crowd. You know them better than us.

My snooty grandmom would shake her head and suck her teeth at it, my dramatic sister would be brought to tears no matter what the lady told her and my super religious step-sister would tell me I was going to hell for it.

The only ones that are super religious are FH's cousin and his family. They accused us of "living in sin" 10 minutes after meeting me so if I can have a palm reader and offend them at the same time mission accomplished lol

OK. I am going to be perfectly honest and say that if I showed up at a wedding with a palm reader front and center I would be very uncomfortable and probably try to make my escape as quickly as I could without being rude. If it was a bit separated and not right in the middle of the reception I might hang around and just avoid it. I have been at carnivals and places with palm readers and just ignored them. So I guess what I am saying is the placement and treatment of said palm reader would determine my reaction. The other stuff sounds fun! Hope that helps and you don't think I am judging or anything Smiley sad

I think it would be a cool idea. Some people will get offended. Too bad. I think if the palm reader was the ONLY entertainment, it would be a not so great idea. But since you are having different entertainers and they are part of a theme, then go for it!

@Sarah I'm going to be front and center! The palm reader would just be in the mix of it all.

@LaFaeda' J would a little churchs chikin and a preggo bride make it right?

I think it would be fun, and that's from an Irish Roman Catholic church-wedding gal's perspective!

I think it will be fine! I know you didn't ask about the face painting, but I agree with Anna. Unless you are going to have a lot of kids there I might skip that part.

I would definately be offended if I went to a wedding with that... My FH's grandmother had an awful experience with that and we are against it... maybe warn your guests...

I could see how it may offend some people. But I know that palm readers are trained and it is for entertainment purposes only. One of my mom's friends is a trained "psychic" and reads your body language and what not. I would just clear it with some of your guests before it is set in stone. Especially if you man's side already has an issue with you two "living in sin". You don't want a bunch of drama at your reception either.

See, if it were me.... I'd play up the palm reader to the crazy aunt who accused me of living in sin. I'd have that psychic/palm reader walking around in FULL Gyspy regalia, complete with crystal ball and I'd have her fall to the feet of the crazy aunt, spewing strange languages and insigting the fear of the unknown!

    BUT I'm mean like that!!!

I personally love the idea, I'd nix the face painting, but maybe replace it with belly dancers!
