Your first trip as a couple

We had been dating for about 5 months and went to Canada. A couple he knows through work goes to Mt. Tremblant every year and we decided to go. We got to do skiing, snow tubing, bar hopping, etc. It was a lot of fun, but I will admit looking back I wonder what was I thinking? Going out of the country with strangers? lol We definitely did get to learn a lot about each other though.

About a month in we went to visit my family in Colorado so the parents could meet him. Our first major trip though was camping in Yellowstone about a year in. You really get to know people in long car rides!

Our first small trip was to his parents cottage 1.5 hours away about 2 weeks into our relationship. It was nice since we got to learn new things about each other (including what 1.5 hours trapped in a car together felt like lol).

Our first big trip was to Punta Cana just over a year into dating. It was really great to get to relax and explore together. We’ve gone on several trips since (been together 8 years) so it’s been interesting comparing those trips to the first one since we function so much better now because we know exactly how the other one is and what they need.

We went on a cruise, about a year after we started dating. It was really nice to see how FH handled time crunching and flights and public transportation. It was also really great to see how he handles me liking to walk around shops and sleep by the pool. Lol

Our first trip was a family vacation to Panama City Beach for a week! It was so fun! We had been dating for 6 months. His mom was getting married on the beach while we were there. The weather was kind of rough the first few days and we didn’t get to swim much, but we still had fun at the beach!

Our 1st trip was to the Shenandoah mountains in Virginia, to a secluded cabin. It was a Christmas present to each other, and we'd been together 5 months. We stopped by the Luray caverns on our way back (I had never heard of them), and now low and behold almost 4 years later, we are going back to get married in Luray! It's not the only reason, but it has become a special place for us.

Our first big trip was Costa Rica. It was amazing!

Our first mini trip together was D.C. We went for a potential job opportunity for him but spent some time exploring the museums and restaurants. I loved how much there was to do in the city! Our first big trip was to London, where we got engaged!

Our first trip was about 7 months into our relationship. However, we didn’t go alone. My parents and sister rented a house down the shore and we ended up going too. We went for a week. We had a great time. And on the last night there we walked to the beach and he said, “I love you” for the first time.

Cape cod for the weekend! It was early September but much colder than usual so we walked the beach in sweatshirts, saw seals!!!!, and went mini golfing. I also can’t help but remember the awful color I died my hair that year. We love traveling together now.

Our first trip was in December 2017 and was a bit odd. So it started out as what was supposed to be a family trip with his siblings and his sister husband. Only the other three didn't tell FH that they had booked a trip for them and he was supposed to go. Then the first time I met his younger brother it was like 11pm and I was making "dinner" of scrambled eggs and mashed potatoes because I wasn't able to eat solid food due to dental complications and FH had just gotten off work. So FBIL (The good one) comes over and is like oh btw we booked this trip to Hawaii and your expected to go but you were single at the time so you need to talk to other FBIL (the bad one) to see if he's ok if your girlfriend comes because you're going to be sharing a room with him. Then a couple months later the bad FBIL also gets a girlfriend and she went with us as well. That trip was slightly awkward mostly because the bad FBIL's girlfriend is a major stuck up dog. The entire time she was trying to act like FH and I didn't pay for anything while the bad FBIL paid for the whole room which I have proof is not the case and we actually paid for over 2/3 of it. And everything was about money with her. She also felt the need to give unwelcome advice on EVERYTHING including the fact FH and I are going to replace the house we live in because that would be cheaper than fixing it or the fact three of the siblings and FMIL want to do solar panels on the farm and she thinks it's stupid. Anyways back to the topic. At that point FH and I had been together just over a year. My favorite activity was either our shark dive, Lahaina, or the tropical botanical garden. My favorite part of the trip was getting engaged on a boat between turtle snorkel locations. Sadly even in a place called turtle town we did not see any turtles BUT I did get to pet an octopus. I think my favorite discovery was that the water was actually blue not that brackish tin foil water that I am used to. And of course now everyone thinks we went to Hawaii just to get engaged which is not true at all.

We had taken a few mini trips. Like weekend drives within the first few months of our relationship, but our first BIG trip was NYC when we had been dating for 6 months. My FH is from there and he wanted me to meet all of his family that lived there. We stayed in his cousins house in Queens and I had the time of my life! It's seriously true when people say there is no other place like New York City! Here's a picture of us from that trip; two years ago. Since then I've gone back twice!

A few months after we had been dating FH took me to Salem a weekend in Halloween. I love witches and Halloween, and had never been to Salem during October before. Our first big trip together was when he took me to meet his family. He used to go down to visit them every year for 10 days. We drove all over FL and we snuck in a few days in Key West to get away by ourselves, we also went to a Red Sox spring training game, and we to Universal for a day. We just took our first real family vacation together in December when we took our to Disney for his birthday.

Apart from a few day trips to New York (we live in New Jersey) and one overnight trip for a convention in Philadelphia, we actually only vacationed once. Believe it or not, we were together 9 1/2 years when we went on a three day trip to Baltimore. It’s still not far from our home but it was a wonderful experience for us being able to get away for more than a day! Pictures attached! 😍

I’ve still never been on a plane so our honeymoon will be a first real trip outside of the US for us (or more than a few hours from home lol)

Aw I love this thread. It gives me great memories. Our first trip together as a couple was to Europe - France and the Netherlands. We were close friends for years, and actually planned the trip together as platonic friends to visit his sister who was doing a study abroad in France. Well two weeks before our trip we realized we had more going on than friendship. So that trip was kind of like a little honeymoon. I remember sitting in a cafe in Paris describing my ideal engagement ring... LOL!! I was actually that sure that once we "came out" to our friends and made things official that he was going to be it for me. We were so lovey-dovey... holding hands, making kissy faces.... things we do NOT do now. Ah, young love.

.... 20 years later.... here we are, finally getting married. And while we've been on a lot of great trips together since then, that first one will always hold a special place in my heart. Both because of it being our first international trip and also because of how newly absorbed we were with each other then.

Our first trip together we had probably been together 3 weeks and we went camping! It was the best decision because although I was nervous for us to be alone for 72 hours with nothing but each other it really gave us time to get to know each other! We actually even talked about getting married for the first time on that trip - and now 3 years later we are!

Our first major trip was a road trip from our home here in Florida, up to Tennessee. We explored Nashville and some nearby waterfalls, and then made stops in Alabama and Georgia on the drive back home. It was such a great trip. We ate good food, saw cool things, and talked and listened to podcasts during our time in the car.

Our first trip together was a week in Ocean City, Maryland. One of our friends owns two condos there, and FH had vacationed there the year before with his friends. I had never been there. We had known each other for about 1.5 years at that point, but our first year was a bit rocky, and we were only officially back together about 4 months at the time.

It was cute because we were both kind of awkward and nervous about spending so much time together, and were both really aware of the problems we had in the past year and wanting to make it work this time.

FH also offhandedly invited his brother and SIL down for the first weekend of the trip, and they took him up on it. So that was a bit weird too. The condo sleeps four (two on a sofa bed) and only has one bathroom, so it was pretty tight quarters.

But, we had a great time, both with his brother/SIL and after they left, and that condo in OCMD has become our regular vacation spot. We even got engaged there four years later.

FH asked me to go with him to a friends wedding before we were "official" We had been dating for 2 months when we flew to Vancouver for that wedding and now that married couple is going to be a big part of our day!

We went to a wedding in Boston of my best college friend. It was the first time he said he loved me.
