Young brides!

Victoria, on March 15, 2017 at 9:36 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 87

Any other young brides in their early 20's? I know a lot of people recommend not getting married until at least 25, but after 2.5 years of dating and 1 year of living together (plus both being in our careers/done with school), it's the right time for us!

Why does age always have to be a factor? I know couples that are mature adults that are ready for the commitment of marriage while I also know PLENTY of adults that are simply not ready for that commitment well beyond 25. As long as you are both consenting adults over the age of 18-why does it matter?

Me! I'm 22 and fiance will be 24 at time of the wedding we have been together for 2.5 years and have lived together for most of our relationship. Don't pay attention to other opinions only you know what's best for you!

@Teamgrz age comes into play because of statistics. You are correct in that some younger people are more mature and some older people are less mature, but that is not the norm. There are real facts to back this up.

At least this thread isn't calling everyone over 21 "old" like all the others!

I was barely 23 when FH and I met. He turned 31 two weeks after we met. He was ready much later in life than I was. We got engaged at 24/32 and will be getting married at 25/33. If just depends on a persons level of readiness. When he was 23 he was still at home with his parents and not thinking of a serious relationship at all. At 23 I'd moved across the country by myself for my job and was completely ready to settle down. Different strokes for different strokes.

Honestly, it seems like most of the criticism I've ever seen at engaged couples around 21/22 comes from other people that are 21/22! FH and I got an overwhelmingly positive response (we expected nothing but excitement from family, but some of our wilder friends we thought might be iffy), but a coworker of mine has had an awful time dealing with it.

This thread is so common. The dead horse is tired of being beaten. Do what's right for you and FH, and don't worry about what others say. Marriages can fail regardless of age.

FH and I are both 22! We met 7 years ago and have been dating for 4 of them. It's definitely the right time for us too. We never got the "too young" response from anyone, but a good majority of our friends are already married, so that may be why.

We get it, you're younger and get to spend more time with your FS than we do because you found them earlier, blah blah blah. Can we ban these types of threads now?

Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't check WW during work yesterday. Smiley smile

Definitely didn't mean that I get more time with him. due to chronic illness, I'll actually get less, so maybe try not to assume that.

What's the point of the thread? If you are ready you are ready. End of story.

@Victoria we are just frustrated because these threads happen CONSTANTLY. If you used the search function, you would've seen all those threads, and could've read through them instead of posting another one.

I'm on mobile, not sure how to search. I'll do that next time I think about posting here... thanks ladies!

My dad is 50 and is still not mature enough to get married. It really depends on you.

I'm so tired of these threads. Honestly I'm a completely different person now and can't imagine why anyone would want to get married that young. FH and I met my freshman year of college and I had enough sense to not rush things.

These threads almost always lead to endless debates. I also don't understand the point of these threads other than seeking validation about a major life decision, and if you are a mature adult validation from internet strangers shouldn't be needed.
