All I need is a small 2 tiered wedding cake, white cake, buttercream frosting, no complicated decorations, to feed 40 to 50 people. The reception is near the Los Angeles area. I get prices from $140 on up plus $30 deliver, plus tax. This is a destination wedding, & no one invited lives in the area,...

That is actually a really great / low price for a cake (wedding or not -- i oversee numerous events).... you can expect to pay as high as $12 / per person.

You all are right. I guess it is a very good price if I look at it priced per slice. I guess since I am getting such a simple "vanilla" cake, I expected to pay less. If this was a triple chocolate with ganache, I'd happily pay the price....lol. I do appreciate everyone's comments and suggestions!!!

You might look in the local newspaper to see if an individual does cakes on the side. I have a friend that is doing mine. She has been doing cakes for about 8 years now. She does them at home and they are delicious and beautiful. I got mine for $2.00 a slice. with a $35.00 delivery charge.

Prices of cakes are also based on the decoration. That price is actually quite amazing, especially in LA. Average is $4-5 per slice, and up. That is a steal! Sign a contract now!

I know some amazing cake confectioners in my area, and that indeed sounds like a deal. What you have to realize is that these business people are running a business, and I've made cakes before. Even for a small 2 tiered cake, it can take half a day between mixing, baking, cooling, mixing icing and decorating. Then they need to store and transport. They need to be paid more for their time than anything. You can pick something up at a grocery store as mentioned above for a bit cheaper because the employees are typically working for minimum wage and they buy their ingredients in bulk.

I wish my cake was $140. I am out of $529 for the wedding cake and the grooms cake.

I'm paying $75 for a 2 tier cake that will feed 50 people.

I'm using a small bakery in town where I live that quite a few people I know told me I should check out due to her cheap price and how good all her deserts are.

I used to be a cake decorator at Wal Mart, I manage the bakery now. The prices for walmart are really good. At my store it is $48 for a two tier cake that feeds about 60 and $58 if you want a filling in it. I know the price is supposed to go up for a "wedding" cake, but at my store we keep it the same price if its a two tier. I'm a little biased I guess since I'm planning a wedding too, I don't wanna charge someone over $100 for the same exact thing! I'd definitely not tell them it's a wedding cake if you were to order from them just to be safe.

Wow that isn't bad at all. My cake is going to cost $275 plus $45 for delivery for a 2 tier to feed 40 people with buttercream icing and nothing big done to it. I don't have the option to do a Sams or Walmart cake since we are getting married in Nassau because I sure would.
