Yikes! Have to get a tooth pulled 11 days before my wedding!

Bree, on March 22, 2014 at 1:22 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

Its my own fault for procrastinating, I got an abscess in February, I was supposed to get it pulled in the beginning of march, but I got a cold & couldnt go to my appointment. Then they couldnt get me in till like march 31, so I was going to try & wait till after the wedding to get it done. It acted up the other day & now I have no choice because I cant have it acting up on my honeymoon & Im sure my dentist isnt going to keep calling antibiotics and pain meds in for me. lol. Hes got me on antibiotics till my appt but my appointment is apr 1... 11 days before my wedding.. Ive never had a tooth pulled.. is it going to affect my wedding day? I dont want to look like a chipmunk in pictures, my cheeks are chubby enough on their own! lol

I can see that being stressful but it should be fine. I had one of my wisdom teeth pulled and went back to work right after. Depending on which tooth sometimes people get a little swelling or bruising. Bleeding is usually under control by the next day.

I would prefer having it dealt with over it causing pain while you are trying to enjoy yourself.

I think you will be fine! I had my two bottom wisdom teeth taken out a few months ago. I did the surgery on a Friday and went right back to work on Monday. My cheeks were puffy till about Thursday, but nobody even noticed. Face felt back to normal by end of the week. Don't stress about it Smiley smile

Also, tell dr your situation and see if he/she has suggestions. When I got mine, I told my dr I wanted to take off the least amount of time possible from work and he said I should go for local anesthesia because the recovery is generally a lot shorter than getting knocked out for the surgery. Maybe there is something he/she may be able to suggest to reduce your "swollen face" time.

Thanks! I feel alot better now! I have seen people complaining about a swollen mouth for weeks after they get a tooth pulled. The only thing that they told me was to not smoke, but the cruise we are going on is a no smoking boat, so I had figured on quitting soon anyhow. I got lucky with my wisdom tooth genes, my mom has 2, I only got one and wont get anymore. It already grew in & I dont have any problems with it. This tooth is tooth 15 thats all I know lol. They recommended me getting knocked out, but I think Im going to talk to them about it. I dont want to be knocked out.

I had 4 wisdom teeth removed, and was never knocked out for any of them. The last one actually wasn't even in my appointment, I went in for a filling and the dentist said " How do you feel about getting a simple extraction done today?"

Like you mentioned, you shouldn't smoke after. You also can't suck drinks through a straw or have any food too hot or too cold I believe.

Since its acted up I have left everything cool down or warm up to room temperature. Its just not worth the pain.. it sucks! Im so glad I was ahead on my DIY wedding stuff kuz now I wont have to worry about it if my tooth is messed up. Thanks, Ill be sure to stay away from straws... This is a "root tip extraction" I was eating salt water taffy when I was in high school & it broke my tooth in half. I left it go kuz it never bothered me, its been a good 10 years since it broke & its just now bothering me. I think thats why they wanted me to be knocked out. But I think Im gonna see if I can skip that part.

Can you go to another dentist? I don't want to scare you but when I had a tooth pulled I ended up with a black eye because the roots got wrapped into the sinuses which caused a blood vessel to burst. I would try to find another option.

There isnt any other options. Ive been to the ER and the dentist 2x about this. Im on my 3rd round of antibiotics for it & it keeps coming back a week or 2 after the antibiotics end. Trust me, if there was a way around it, I would have found it. I cant go to another dentist either, I am paying out of pocket for all of it.

I've had two teeth pulled on the bottom of my mouth. Two molars. I was feeling better literally within an hour after they pulled the infected teeth. The swelling was down within a matter of days. Wisdom teeth are another story.

Just make sure you get antibiotics right away to keep any infection away! I got a tooth pulled and I was in soooo much pain because I got an infection. Follow all their aftercare instructions so you minimize complications.

I had a tooth pulled as a teenager, and my husband had one just last year. No crazy swelling or black eyes or anything.

Everyone heals differently. I had all of my wisdom teeth taken out on the same day. In 3 days I was conpletely healed. You shouldn't worry Hun. Just take care of yourself and don't stress Smiley smile

I work at a Dental Office so from experience I'll tell you if you get it pulled 11 days before you should be fine. Everyone heals differently so you might heal in 2 days or it might take longer. The best thing I can tell you is try to rest once its pulled and tell them to give you medication for the pain like Tylenol 800 or something like that. Also idk if you smoke but if you want to recover faster don't smoke, because it will not let you heal properly. Eat soft foods, and cold things like ice cream you should be fine in a couple of days.

Myself, other than one of my wisdom teeth where part of the root broke off and was left in the socket accidentally, I never had a problem.

and I've had 9 teeth pulled because my mouth is so small. wasn't enough room for them all.

no promises. but unless you have some kind of issue I can't see having a problem by the time of your wedding. just be careful and take care of yourself Smiley smile

we've all got something in our lives that can make the wedding day more difficult that we'd like, but life tends to not revolve around weddings. I know someone that hurt her wrist a week before, but since there was no broken bones they gave her a removable cast so she didn't have to wear it on the actual day.

it was a bit swollen and sore, but nothing that really got in the way of her fun.

    take care and good luck!

I had one pulled right near my sinus and just make sure you follow the instructions to a T that your dentist gives you. Ice it to keep swelling down and avoid alcohol for a few days and now is a perfect time to quit smoking. Get lots of rest, eat healthy, drink water, take your meds and you should be fine.

How long did it take for the black eye to go away? Genuinely curious because I'm supposed to get my wisdom teeth out 12 days before my wedding. I may reconsidered depending on your answer.
