wth is "western formal"--please help a fogab out!

My stepson, who is getting married next August stopped over last night and changed my self proclaimed title of "smog" (step monster of the groom) to "fogab" (friend of the groom and bride) which is sweet. He also said that the bride has posted on their website the dress code as "western formal."...

My stepson, who is getting married next August stopped over last night and changed my self proclaimed title of "smog" (step monster of the groom) to "fogab" (friend of the groom and bride) which is sweet.

He also said that the bride has posted on their website the dress code as "western formal." What is that? Sounds like an oxymoron to me!

I have boots, but they are for riding a Harley, not a horse.

Joe is at a loss as well. I told him we should await further instructions and deal with it closer to the date.

He asked me to ask y'all for suggestions.

Thanks, as always!

Sos, now those I have (but I wear them over my jeans when on the Harley)!

Would this work? Understated and wearable again...

Okay so FH and I are very western and his groomsmen and himself are wearing jeans, vests, cowboy hats, and boots. If I was to say western formal I would assume nice jeans with boots and a jacket/sports coat/vest for men. For women, my mom and stepmom have both looked at doing long maxi style dresses with boots or flats or shorter sundress style dresses. As long as you aren't wearing jeans and a tshirts you're fine lol. Atleast in my opinion. We know that some people will take on this "country" look overboard while others just wear whatever they want. I wouldn't worry too much. Just find something you feel comfortable in and send him or the bride a pic and ask what they think.

Why. Why is this a thing. There is absolutely no need for a dress code unless you are going all out black tie. Your guests are not props.

Extra points for guests who wear assless chaps.

Thank you Miss.MtoMrs..K, I thought that maybe the easiest way to be compliant without bringing any attention on myself.

I heartily agree that dress codes blow the goat Smiley smile

But I read enough on here about "Monsters-in-law" and try to be a good mil to my dil.

Thanks for all the laughs and commiseration!

I think as long as you look nice and don't wear white, you're good lol. I've come to the conclusion that my MIL will probably wear turquoise boots and turquoise pants lol. That's just who she is and that's fine by me haha

This is what I think when I hear "western formal" although I don't think I've ever heard those two things together.

Yeah, not the fringe fan. On me. Others can do as I please.

Maybe I am just conservative. I shy away from animal prints and sequins as well Smiley smile

    Again, my thanks to everyone!!!!!!

Nonna, I think that dress would work for sure. I have no *earthly clue* what the dress code means. You could ask what the wedding party is wearing? Jean skirts and boots or nah?
