WR: Prelude music starts when?

EdubbsWife™, on August 25, 2011 at 5:16 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

Quick question. When does the prelude music start? We are having 30 minutes of prelude music. The wedding invitations say the wedding starts at 4:30P so does that mean that the prelude starts at 4:30 and we start down the aisle at 5 or does that mean that the prelude music starts at 4:00 and we start down the aisle at 4:30P?

I am asking because so many people arrive at weddings late and end up in the hall way during the processional. Heck, it's happened to me a few times. What's the general consensus on this?

I believe the Prelude music start as the guest start to arrive. I would say start the music at 4, so the guest that arrive early will be semi-entertained.

I think it's supposed to start prior to the scheduled start time. So that would be 4:00. It just prevents the guests from sittin in complete silence.

I posted a somewhat similar question and the consensus was the music begins 30 minutes prior to your ceremony start time. So if your invitations say 4:30 then you begin the music at 4.

If people are late then they miss out.

I agree, start at 4..usually guests start trickling in half an hour before start time.

I've always known it to be that if your wedding starts at 4:30 that means you start down the aisle at 4:30 (well, hopefully lol) So I agree and say start your music at 4:00.

I'm having mine start at 1, an hour before the start time.

30 minutes before your invitation time is the norm... or as soon as the first guests arrive. Whichever comes first.

Thanks. My family is notoriously 5 - 20 min late and I would like for them to see me walk down the aisle. I will probably start the 30 min clock at the time the first guest arrives. I have the prelude in the program so people will know we are not simply running late but it's planned music! LOL.
