Would you regret not having a big wedding

After all the twists and turns that have taken place in our life lately, we have debated on forgoing our big wedding and now just go to the mountains and have a small family wedding and maybe a "reception" party when we get home. Will I regret this decision?

We had 60-ish, and I thought it was perfect-- we had time to actually circulate to every table and talk to everyone, everyone there was meaningful to us, but it felt like a 'real wedding', with the flowers and the dress, so I don't feel the need for a do-over.

I really wanted the big wedding but I know that it is more feasible for us to have a small and then maybe a big party later... With grandbaby on the way and trying to pay off house maybe I need to stop trying to "keep up with the jones" and remember its just about me and him forget who else is there.. Feel like I'm being selfish wanting the big wedding especially after how hard we've been working to pay everything off..

I had a wedding with 80 people the first time around. I thought it was too big, even at the time, but the groom insisted that he "had to" invite everyone up to his second cousins. The second time around, we had a dozen guests.

Yes, if you have a small wedding, you may regret not having had a bigger one. But if you have a big one, you may regret not having a smaller one. You can't predict how your preferences will change later. All you can do is have the wedding you prefer now.

I would regret not having all of our friends and family there BUT that's because we are extremely tight-knit and don't miss each other's events.

Only you can know if you'll regret it or not. I had a decently sized wedding (~150)...for a while I was questioning why I wanted such a big celebration. Now that it's over, I'm so glad we did what we did.

You got some great advise. I would have regretted a small wedding. BUT I'm me, not you. Only you can truly decide what is right for you. Smiley smile

That's what we're doing & I'm hoping the same thing. However, I don't think I'll regret it because ultimately the marriage is about you & your FH, no one else.

I don't think so; as long as you two agree on the decision it should be fine; the memories of your special day will remain forever whether it was a small or big wedding

Having a grand affair can be nice, but don't let that idea weigh on you too much. What's most important is love and family and joy, not the amount of people around. Smaller weddings can be more intimate. As long as the people you're closest to are there, it shouldn't matter how big or small the wedding is.

We officially decided on a tiny destination wedding. It's taken a lot of stress off of our shoulders. Now we're just anticipating the day Smiley smile

I would much rather have my house paid off.

It will be a financial and personal decision for sure. We are well below 80 (shooting for 50ish) and we're sticking to our guns on that.

Financially: we're paying for everything ourselves so we want to be smart

Personally: the concept of a wedding is intimate and personal, we only wanted to share it with people who supported our relationship
