Would you invite a friend you're not speaking with to your wedding?

I'm on the fence on whether to invite a college friend to the wedding. We were pretty close in college. We had a two-year falling out while I was in law school, but then re-connected after I graduated. When I got engaged in March of 2017, I was excited to tell her and she seemed genuinely happy for me (she mentioned planning a shower). I'll admit that for about a month after I got engaged I talked the wedding a lot--more than I'm sure she cared to hear about. Being on WW has taught me that no one cares about my wedding as much as I do--I get that now.

I haven't spoken to her on the phone since April and we haven't had a text conversation since May (which really was just a "hey, how are you?" type conversation). I texted her in June to see how she was and I got no reply. I messaged her on Instagram in October--again no reply. We like each other's photos on Instagram and Facebook. That's pretty much the extent of our friendship at this point.

We have very limited seating at our wedding. I feel like not inviting her would probably end the friendship. I guess my question is given the circumstances, would you invite her? Do you have some sort of rule that you've created for yourself where you don't invite people you haven't spoken to in the last 6 months? Year?

    I wouldn't invite her...although I had a pretty limited guest list anyways.

If I have not spoken to you in the last year you were not even a thought for the guest list. I have a friend who invited me to her wedding last October (we hadn't spoken in almost a year) and I was happy to go, but for my wedding we had to cut the list a ton so she is not invited to my wedding. It may hurt her feelings but honestly I haven't spoken to her since her wedding and we really aren't close anymore.

I had a best friend all throughout junior high and high school. We were still friends during college but it cooled off due to distance and the fact she had a son when we were 20 (we had different priorities at that point). We had a falling out about 6 years ago, but we started talking here and there about a year ago. I plan on inviting her to the wedding. I will say she apologized for her actions that led to the falling out, so that helped. I just wanted my oldest friend there to see me get married.

Sounds to me like the friendship is already over for the most part. If you have limited seating don't waste it on people who don't care.

There are two people I sent STDs to who in the past 6 months were kind of not very nice to me in those months, so guess what? They were not invited to the shower or the wedding. I'm 40. Don't have time for games or drama. Your wedding is YOUR DAY with YOUR HUSBAND. If people don't appreciate your friendship, you shouldn't have to pay for them to just sit there feeling obligated, drinking and eating without giving a s#$t about you.

I completely agree with this! Even if she doesn’t come, at least you know you didn’t slam the door on the friendship.

This is easy. The answer is no, don't invite her.

I'm in a similar situation where I have this one friend who never talks to me for 2+ years unless she needs my help. I know her for 10+ years but I'm not planning on inviting her to the wedding. I would still hang out with her at mutual friends' events but I only want people who care about me and my FH to be at our wedding. I completely agree with Kat - no time for games or drama or people who don't really care about our friendship.

I wouldn’t personally invite them it’s your wedding and you should only have people who truly love and care for you there
