Would You Be Okay If Your Husband Had a Vasectomy?

Vasectomies are reversible. His body & his choice - after we have kids.

We looked into my FH getting a vasectomy. We have an 11 month old daughter together and I have a son from a previous marriage and I can no longer have babies. Both pregnancies had complications and my last one was high risk. I was advised to stop. He was willing to get one but my doctor said they aren't the best method. So I went ahead with the surgery. My doctor completely removed my tubes. We discussed kids on our second date. We also got pregnant very early(total surprise since he was told he couldn't have kids) we couldn't be happier with our 2 kids.

If my fiancé got one before the wedding, I would have be pissed not because he got one but because I got a iud put in for nothing! I’m not big on having kids, that freaks me out. He really doesn’t care.

I've told FH that he gets to be the one having procedures after we have kids (or at least try).

I got pulled off birth control nearly 2 years ago, by my doctor, given my age and how long I'd been on it. So... I can't go back on it, tubal litigation is MAJOR surgery and vasectomies aren't, and there will be a certain point where it will be the best option.

He was a little befuddled the first time I brought it up, but now he's a lot more aware of the demands we'll be placing on my body if we do manage to have kids.

View Quoted Comment Exactly! When my FH and I talked about how to avoid having more than 2 children, he said that he would get a vasectomy. I asked him if he was okay with that and he literally said "you're going to be pregnant and giving birth, it's the least I can do" haha.

It’s been quite a conversation for my FH and I. We have 1 child already, she’s 2 and she’s lovely (most of the time). I want 1 more, he’s good with the 1. I mentioned wanting another, and he said if I didn’t stop that he’d go get a vasectomy. He also liked to joke saying “are you pregnant?” Whenever I make a comment about not feeling well. I let it slide for a while, and then it started to really bother me. I asked him to stop making that joke, because every time he does it reminds me that the answer will likely never be yes, and that hurts. He apologized, saying he didn’t realize it hurt me as much as it did.

Recently, it’s been weird. We’re looking for a 2 bedroom apartment for us and our daughter to move into in December, and he randomly was like “a 3 bedroom might be nice too” and wanted to look at those as well, and has now said he wants to get a vasectomy “when we’re done aging kids” and I don’t know what to make of it xD.

TLDR; I’m good with him getting a vasectomy if it’s really what he wants to do, but not as a reaction to your partner wanting another kid when you cant fathom having another just yet.

View Quoted Comment I already have a son who is 11, he has none. But being that we’re 37 and 52, neither of us want to start that phase over! Besides, we would rather spend money on traveling than on a baby.
