Would a sharpie write well on a candle or is there another marker or pen that can be use?

IDK if there's any special pen for this but I do know that there are some places that can customize your candles to add their names (might be expensive), so you can also DIY buy typing them up and glue them to the candles if you can't find a pen. As for the sharpie, if you have a sample of the candles you might be using, why don't you just try it out to see how it works?

Perhaps you can find some foil letters to affix to the candles.

Maybe use a glass and print a clear sticky label on it. I have some photos of what our girls have done in the past at the office. I'll try and remember to post them tomorrow

I'm not sure how a sharpie would work on a candle because of the waxy surface, but you could always put them in galss candle holder and paint the names on the candle holders.

Craft stores sell rhinestone initials. you just adhere it to the candle. They come in an assortment of colors too. Def don't use a sharpie!!
