This is what I had discussed with the bakery and was assured the could do it no problem. But you can probably guess that was not the case as per the title of this post. This is what I had discussed with the bakery and was assured the could do it no problem. But you can probably guess that was not the case as per the title of this post. I kid you not I burst into tears and walked out of the venue. I was fine 5 minutes later but for a second I lost it. My step dad was more upset than I was and confronted the bakery and got a full refund for us. We learned what happened and I understand but was still upset. They forgot to order the cake rounds and had to cut the cake by hand from sheet cakes. But, it wasn't the end of the world. We survived. Anyone else had a nightmare cake experience like this?

I'm shocked they agreed to a naked cake, I don't think it's in their menu of cake decorating styles.

Yeah, I agree that it was pretty bad looking. I don't like naked cakes. I do a LOT of baking, and I wouldn't touch a naked cake for anything. It takes a LOT of skill to get several layers of cake to look good AND uniform out of the pans, and that's not even going into the stacking and barely-there crumb coating that would be required to keep them from getting dry.

You were very lucky it didn't have time to dry out, and I'm glad it was delicious. Places like Publix can be a great option for a budget wedding cake, but as you learned, they are NOT specialty bakers and they do NOT bake their own cakes: they get them in frozen and work with what they have.

I'm sorry you had to learn this way, and glad they refunded you.

Wow. I'm so sorry that happened. I'm not personally a fan of most naked cakes, but what they delivered didn't even come close to what you asked for. I'm glad they refunded your money, but I think they would've been better off decorating it simply in a way they knew how to do it than delivering a sad attempt at a naked cake that they weren't prepared to make.

I would leave them a review. What was their excuse for this? If I was a professional I would never want people to see a cake that looked like that. So bad for business!

What AshleyCT said, Publix doesn't bake their cakes in house, so expecting them to make a naked cake may be unrealistic. This is particularly true if you want something that they don't normally do.

Poor thing, you handled it well. It doesn't seem like they have much experience with the "naked" cake trend. They didn't even smooth the sides.... lol! I looks a little lopsided also. I'm glad you managed tho!

Wow... they could have tried to make it better by scraping some thin frosting around it. It just looks so incomplete. I am glad it tasted good and I think you handled it well.
