Worst cake ever?

Clara, on October 30, 2016 at 10:08 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 37

This is what I had discussed with the bakery and was assured the could do it no problem. But you can probably guess that was not the case as per the title of this post. I kid you not I burst into tears and walked out of the venue. I was fine 5 minutes later but for a second I lost it. My step dad was more upset than I was and confronted the bakery and got a full refund for us. We learned what happened and I understand but was still upset. They forgot to order the cake rounds and had to cut the cake by hand from sheet cakes. But, it wasn't the end of the world. We survived. Anyone else had a nightmare cake experience like this?

The cake we received. We used flowers and they helped a little. At least it tasted delicious. It was vanilla with raspberry filling. And cream cheese frosting.

I would have been upset too but i think you handled it well. you regained control and just rolled with it!

It was delicious and I'm glad for that!!

ETA - they should be able to identify a crumb layer that goes on a naked cake that sqaures off the layers.. it shouldn't matter that they didn't have the rounds!

they sold you a naked cake and then gave you an unfinished cake

I would prob follow up with the bakery and really let them have it for dropping the ball in a major way

Oh my! That cake does not look appetizing in the least. I'm glad your dad was able to get them to refund for you. Is there somewhere you can leave a review for the baker to reflect this poor quality?

Also, on the upside, it tasted good. You and your guests will not be talking about how bad it was for years to come.

I'm surprised a professional baker didn't already have cake rounds. I barely bake and I have 4 different sizes.

Anyways, I'm glad it tasted great! Yay for finding the positive in the situation.

Wow, um, they nailed the "unfinished cake" aspect....

But yeah, I can see why they gave a full refund for this. This honestly looks like a DIY gone seriously wrong.

Oh honey! I'm sorry. I totally get it though, I had a very similar experience with my flowers. Except i only got a partial refund. The florist was a bitch honestly. She literally said "it's not like we didn't provide you with ANY flowers" when they were exactly what I said I DIDN'T want and they had that noted on my contract.

I literally walked away for 10 minutes after I saw them, just livid. Then I let it go. I'm still married and it was a beautiful day. Thats what matters.

We went through Publix bakery. I used to work at one several years ago. They don't bake the cakes in store but they are still delicious.

That's just weird. They could have made it look way better with just a couple scrapes of frosting around the edges. Not right, but better. If it tasted good, it can't be the worse cake ever!

I have to tell you, I don't like the naked cake trend. You have to be very, very, very good to make a naked cake look NOT like an unfinished cake.....

The fact that a bakery doesn't have round cake pans doesn't make sense . The cake doesn't look supported correctly they didn't dam the frosting . The frosting isn't firm enough. A naked cake is pretty much a neatly crumb coated cake with decor , usually flowers .

    BE CAREFUL WRITING NEGATIVE REVIEWS

I cannot stress that enough. You could potentially be sued. OP you have every right to be upset and state that in your review of the baker but you need to be SO careful with your wording.

I probably would have laughed because I would have thought that someone was playing a joke on me...that's probably the only way I wouldn't have flipped all the way out.

I'm not a fan of naked cakes either, but that is awful... I probably would have skipped even getting pictures with it... I think someone just needed a laugh for the day in that bakery.. Pinterest makes naked cakes look great, but seems like very few real life wedding cakes rarely pull it off

Naked cakes are so hard to do and do well.. which is why I NEVER accept an order for one. However, this cake just looks horrendous. Plus how does a bakery not have round cake pans???? It is essential to a bakery's survival. Glad the cake tasted good though.

Well after reading your comments it makes more sense . Publix bakery is not the place to get a wedding cake if you care about how it looks
