Worrying about RSVPs?

Kendra, on April 20, 2017 at 9:54 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 35

Our invitations went out a month ago. Our "rsvp by" date isn't for another two weeks, but I'm getting nervous because less than half of the guests have responded. I know they have a bit more time but I'm really not looking forward to tracking 90+ people down. People who have been there, do most people wait until the last minute to rsvp?

Some people literally don't realize that the polite thing to do is to reply right away. That's why there's a date Smiley smile

People sometimes RSVP on the day that they need to RSVP by. It's more common than you think.

I'd wait until a week or so after the due date has passed to worry about missing RSVPs.

Thanks guys. We also did online rsvps instead of rsvp cards to save paper. honestly i would think it would make things easier because you can just do it on your phone (whereas I know I dragged my feet rsvping to my cousin's wedding because I couldn't remember to go buy stamps and our apartment building makes mailing things super hard). I agree with @jenny! I literally squirmed when my FMIL said, "Well I always wait until the last minute to rsvp, so that is probably what my family is doing!"

I also findit interesting that no one in the bridal party has rsvp'ed--i think they don't realize they have to (we're doing a plated dinner so we need meal choices!)

The online RSVPs may be the issue. I did both: online and traditional RSVP with a stamp (of course). 90% sent it back via snail mail. A ton came in the first week, even more week 2, then dwindled down week 3 and now we are in week 4.

129 accepted, and still waiting for 39 more. Due date is 5/1.

Typically and this is purely from my research as this is my first wedding, invites should not go out more than 3 months prior to wedding as some people may misplace/lose or simply forget to respond as the date is so far ahead. Also as some mentioned from experience with weddings of family members some people literally rsvpd on the rsvp date and invites came a week after the rsvp by date

What did you guys use for online RSVPs? We don't have to worry about meal selections, as we are having a buffet, my fiance wants us to do online RSVPs.

I had to contact 96 people (out of 300) after the rsvp deadline. It comes with the territory. A lesson for new brides, sending invites out more than 8 weeks in advance will greatly increase your chances of people forgetting to rsvp or changing their minds after they send in their rsvp.

I think there are two people in this world. One who RSVPs the instant they get the invite. And the second are the people who will RSVP the instant it's due. Sigh.

My RSVP by date was today. When I came home, I checked the mail and sat down and sent a quick text to the 9 or so families or couples that have not responding saying "hey, I haven't gotten your RSVP card back but don't worry, if you already sent it, I'll get it in a couple days, if you haven't sent it, you can always go to our website at "blah, blah, blah". Can't wait to see you"

I got 6 rsvps within 5 minutes online and if I don't hear back from the others, I'll call them. All my old relatives rsvped weeks ago, it's just my 20's something cousins who aren't use to rsvping

Omg over half my rsvp were never returned and I had to track down people who proceeded to tell me "of course I'll be there, I didn't think you'd need the rsvp to know that". It's so easy, we put the stamps on it for them just put it in the mailbox!

Not quite half of our guests have responded (online RSVP) and our due date is next Saturday. I should probably start gathering phone numbers for these people!
