Worries about the covid in November

Diana, on August 3, 2020 at 5:35 PM Posted in California Planning 0 6
I am going crazy! I haven’t ordered the invitations. The venue says go as planed with 100 guest but I’m not sure if I feel safe with grandparents being around people with what’s going on. What are you guys doing?

We’re making the call at the end of this month/beginning of September. We’ve already rescheduled once (July to November), so it’ll be easier to reschedule a second time around. How is your venue proposing to get around the state mandated no-receptions if it still holds true in November?

Outdoors or cut the # of people. I don’t want to do that. I already cut enough. When you changed date, did you send another invite to let your guest know? Or did you just call everyone?

Our wedding has always been entirely outdoors, so that hasn't changed. We don't want to cut the number of people invited (113 had confirmed prior to our first postponement), so if restrictions don't look promising, then we'll move to Plan C (elope with parents and anniversary party next fall). When we postponed, we called and texted everyone on our guest list, even those who had RSVPd no to let them know that we were postponing the wedding. Everyone was extremely understanding and encouraging. We also sent out re-save the dates a couple of weeks later to let guests know of the new date since it's Thanksgiving weekend. In hindsight, I wish I hadn't since regulations aren't looking amazing and instead just spread it to our out of state guests through word of mouth, but oh well.

Good thing you haven't ordered invites! I ordered mine, and 2 days before we were sending them out, we got word that our wedding would have to be postponed. I also worry about my grandfather being around people during this time, so that's ultimately what made me cancel the (big) wedding for the time being, and we'll just be "eloping" without our family, because I just don't want to put anyone at risk. If you look at statistics, most people are contracting covid from family gatherings, and I just didn't want to risk it. I personally wouldn't consider hosting or attending a 20 person event, let alone a 100 person event - but that's just me!

Hi Diana! I'm so sorry you're going through this, I have to imagine it's crazy stressful!

Here are two other discussions for fall CA weddings you should definitely check out and join in as well: November California Brides- postponing? and Anyone Still Having their Wedding in California this Fall with a Guest Count of 40+?

I would absolutely not take that risk! Since you haven’t ordered invites, it sounds like you’re still in the beginning stages of planning? You still can think of alternative options: maybe a small intimate 6ft apart ceremony with just family, and then a bigger (whatever size gathering is permitted in your county) reception that the at-risk demographic doesn’t have to attend. All outdoors of course, hopefully with masks!
