Anyone Still Having their Wedding in California this Fall with a Guest Count of 40+?

Liz, on July 24, 2020 at 2:01 PM Posted in California Planning 2 16

Wondering if anyone still plans to host their wedding this Fall in California and if your venues are allowing a guest count of more than 20 people max. Our venue right now will only allow us to have 10-15 ppl max.

Hi Molly, so glad to hear it! We found a venue in Placer County that will allow us to have 60 guests or so. I'm curious if you have talked with the venue about the fact that gatherings of any size are not permitted in California? Ceremonies are of 100 outdoors, but not receptions. I do really want to move forward with our wedding in September with the new venue but I worry about getting reported or shut down last minute....

My whole wedding ceremony and reception are outdoors. I called the state COVID advice line and they told me mass gatherings are not allowed, then I asked them about a wedding with 50 guests and they said they did not consider that to be a mass gathering and it would be up to my county. I then reached out to my county and I got the go ahead from our Public health officer himself. I sent the emails between myself and the public health officer to our venue because they we not sure about the rules. The county of Lake is not on the watch list and our public health officer only said yes after my agreeing to Covid restrictions and certain stipulations such as only local guests (most of my family and friends are local anyways) and no DJ.

Oh wow, you are so on top of it, I'm impressed!! That is a great point that a wedding with 50 guests is not a mass gathering. That's so awesome you got the "go ahead" from your Public Health officer himself. Unfortunately, Placer County is on the watch list but hopefully that will change in the next couple months or so...it's at least not as bad there as where I am in the Bay Area. Thank you so much for that info, Molly, that is super helpful!!

You're welcome! It takes a lot of work to get answers. I would email my counties public health office every three days. They probably just said yes to get rid of me lol.

So happy another CA bride made a post about this! I was getting worried, but happy I'm not the only one now haha. I'm getting married on Oct 10th in El Dorado county, with about 25 people. We recently cut our guest list down, to just immediate families and wedding party. El Dorado county is also not on the watch list, so we are currently still planning for our wedding too. I recently spoke to our venue owner a week ago, and she said we're good to go. I think it all depends on the county, venue and their own restrictions. Our venue is privately owned restaurant with a ceremony spot outside, and will probably do reception outside too. Molly is definitely on top of it and gives me hope we'll be okay! Lol! 💕

We're currently rescheduled for November 28. Our guest list is 213, but if we have similar RSVPs to our previous date (rescheduled 3 weeks out), then it would end up being about 115 people. However, given the rise in COVID numbers and the fact that wedding receptions are still not allowed in CA, I'm not holding onto much hope that even November will happen in the way we currently have planned. We'll make the decision in September whether to move forward with our Plan B or to move onto Plan C which would be an elopement.

We moved our reception out. We were scheduled for September 19th but after many conversations and constant changes we postponed to make it a 1 year anniversary celebration. I didn't want to lose money, minimize our vision or put anyone's health in jeopardy. We are still moving forward with our DW in Jamaica.

I got a call from a friend who had pushed her wedding from May to September in Santa Barbara, and now she’s pushing it again to an undecided date. It was supposed to be outdoors at a park so plenty of space for social distancing, but I understand why they decided to postpone until cases for down.

Our wedding was scheduled for October 25th this year in Alameda county but we have decided to postpone to April next year. There was just too much uncertainty and things weren't looking hopeful. We now plan to get married on our anniversary October 23rd this year and just have our big celebration next April. We're hopeful things will be better next year and we can actually have all the family amd friends we wanted.

We went from June 28th to Sept 6 to now June 27, 2021. Gav Newsom is all over the place 🙄. So unreliable and I never thought when I had my wedding , that there would be any restrictions. Lucky enough , we went to the court house 2 years ago and this was just a huge celebration for family and friends.

We’re having a very small wedding outdoors at a venue in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The venue hold up to 250 people though and I believe they’re still allowing large gatherings (with social distancing as it is all outdoors under the redwoods.

My daughter just got married Aug. 1st in Bay Area with 80 guests ceremony/reception at a private outdoor venue. The venue took all precautions with distancing, masks, sanitizing stations and it was as beautiful as any wedding could be.

Congratulations to your daughter!! I'm also in the Bay Area. Do you mind me asking what venue it was? I'm trying to find a venue that will host our 60-70 person wedding, our original venue in Sonoma is closed for receptions 🙁
