November California Brides- postponing?

Alex, on July 27, 2020 at 12:17 PM Posted in California Planning 0 10
Hi fellow November brides! My fiancé and I were planning on getting married at the end of November in Paso Robles but have been going back and forth on whether we should postpone for next year. I was curious to see what other couples were doing, either postponing, cutting guest lists, or going forward as is?

We have a lot of family out of state and many of them may not be able to travel, and we’re hesitant to put any family or friends at risk. But it’s such a big decision and it’s so hard to know what restrictions will still be in place in a few months. Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

We’re making the decision in September, though I’m 90% sure it’ll need to be postponed. Our venue isn’t even open and I don’t realistically foresee CA allowing receptions this year. We’ve already postponed once, so making the call a second time (and further out) will be easier to do. We will be eloping if we decide to postpone and then have a reception/anniversary party next year.

We were set to get married for September in SLO but our venue called us 2 weeks ago & told us we should reschedule because things will be shutting back down. We were the only couple left on his books who refused to reschedule because we too were hopeful things would change. So, we rescheduled for October 23, 2021. Luckily I was able to get all my vendors on board for the new date! We are still planning to get married now on on our new date. I’m still figuring out the “where” part I’m thinking Moonstone Beach or somewhere “free” but at least will be married & next year we hope to have the big celebration we both wanted & it’s special because it’s our 1 year anniversary by then!

Ours was 11/14 in La Jolla and although it seemed like we would have gotten away with at least 100 people, we ended up moving it to April.. I was stressed about it for months and felt like crap and after we changed it I felt completely relieved. I want the wedding I’ve always dreamed of, not with people wearing masks and not able to give me a hug or dance! Hopefully April will be better LOL

We’re not November but we moved from 10/10/20 to 10/30/21. We live in SoCal but are getting married Vegas and 100% of our guests
need to travel and stay a few nights. We took that into consideration along with a number of other factors and concluded that postponing was best. I definitely feel relief and more confidence that we’ll be able to have a better shot at executing our wedding plans next year.

Hi Nicole, so sorry to hear you and your fiancé already went through this once and are having to consider it a second time. I definitely agree, I find it hard to imagine big receptions being allowed this year. Wishing you and your fiancé all the best!

Hi Amber, thanks so much for sharing! I’m so sorry you and your fiancé had to reschedule- SLO has been so up in the air with their restrictions it seems like since for a while they weren’t on the watch list I was trying to be hopeful too. I’m so glad all your vendors were able to do your new date and moonstone beach is so beautiful!

Hi Lindsey, I’m feeling like I’m in the same boat! I’ve been so anxious trying to make this decision. Our wedding is supposed to be around the same size as yours, and I had a similar thought process. We could probably still do it since it’s outdoors, but we couldn’t be able to dance and have our dessert table and a lot of the things we were really looking forward to. Wishing you and your fiancé all the best for a beautiful April wedding!

Thanks so much for sharing! We’ve run into similar issues with traveling- my fiancé’s family is all out of state and many of them most likely won’t be able to travel to California. Getting married in Vegas sounds so fun and I’m so glad to hear you and your fiancé will be able to have the wedding you’ve dreamed of! Smiley smile

I am a September bride in a very small town in northern CA with low cases. I will be moving ahead with a 50 person wedding of local family.

Getting married 11/13/20 in So Cal (OC) and still moving forward. Trying to hold onto hope that some restrictions will be lifted in the next few months and we can have at least 25% of our venue capacity (100 people). We will probably make a decision in September, but we are trying to not postpone as we wanted to start a family and putting a hold on life for postponing the reception isn't really an option for us. Best of luck to all brides!
