Worried that my wedding will look cheap since I'm trying to save money. What do you think?

Emma, on March 12, 2014 at 6:11 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 28

Hey ladies,

Well, I'm very happy and excited for my wedding, but it won't be fancy or anything like that. I'm not having a church ceremony. Mine is going to be civil union. But my dad is still walking me down the aisle and we are doing it at my aunt's house, since she has a garden that can fit around 50 people. So we are doing the ceremony there and then a small reception with an Italian buffet. I'm still wearing a beautiful wedding dress though and I will take professional photos to have a good memory of that day. But I get a little worried about what people might think, since it won't be a fancy or big venue and usually weddings are elegant. My cousins had a really nice wedding and I don't know what people might think of mine. But I decided to do something small to save money because we want to buy a house in the future and other important stuff. What do you think???

It doesn't have to be big and "fancy" to be "elegant"

^^^^^ agree completely. We do what we can and hope that everyone has a good time. At the end of the day you are married and did what you could afford to do

What is important is YOUR happiness overall. Your wedding might not be as extravagant or "fancy" as the weddings on Four Weddings that win a dream honeymoon, but you're also not competing - with family or anyone else. It's your special day with your FH. Smiley smile If it makes you happy, do it. My FH and I are now planning to elope and throw a party afterwards. It won't be as breathtaking as my MOH's incredible 27k beach wedding, but it's special to me and knowing we'll be able to afford a home down the line instead of spending $$$ on one day is more important to me.

Do what makes you happy and just enjoy.

I think your views on weddings are a bit off...not all weddings are the same and don't need to be large or fancy to be an awesome wedding. Some of the best weddings I have been to have been at unique places with a small group of people

Provide those 50 ppl with a quality experience, ie: ambience, nice setting, pretty details, good food, some drinks, and some mood-fitting music, and it can be just as elegant as something extravagant

Saving money to buy a house is smart -- you need to live someplace after you're married, and building equity is a good thing to start early at as a married couple! Don't feel like you have to apologize for having your life priorities in order, especially when you are entertaining your closest friends and family who love you regardless! It's a day of celebration, but it doesn't have to be big and boasty to be fun.

What you are doing sounds amazing! And girl...let me tell you I dumpster dived for a free desk to use for our guest book and it looks fabulous after a coat of Olde English. You can have a really elegant wedding on a dime. I have already gotten a ton of decor from Dollar Tree.

Your smiling face is what they want. You can have a 200 thousand dollar budget and the bride is freaking out the whole time yelling at people. Serenity and grace will make it great and memorable, and if youre worried, just bump up your favor budget to give each person something theyll actually like/use/bottle of wine etc

Stop worrying so much about what other people think your wedding looks like. This is about what you want in your wedding...not what everyone else wants.

Anyone who has had a wedding will understand costs and anyone who hasn't had a wedding will understand it when they have to go through the paying process.

Pricey does not equal classy. You can have classy, beautiful, and elegant things for a smaller price tag.

I'm having a "big" wedding only because our families are that big (and it is only family at the wedding). But whenever I've been to friends' weddings, I have preferred the small ones...they just seem so much more intimate.

I think it sounds great! To me, what's most important about a wedding is how it feels. I'm there to support and celebrate the happy couple.

I say don't worry about what others think as long as you like it and you are thinking about the future it sounds just fine. We are doing the same thing, small wedding less then $3k cause we too want to buy a house and have money for a honeymoon.

The day is about you and your fiancé, don't worth about what other people say. I think what you described is awesome!

I've wondered the same thing from time to time. I'm not spending much of anything on the wedding for several reasons, but I'm totally confident that it will be nice and pretty.

I think location can mean a lot. you said it was going to be in a garden, I think no matter what that would be great Smiley smile

weddings at home are a great touch and always have a nice feeling.

I was concerned about not being able to have much of a flower or decoration budget, but then found a ball room type chapel with a beautiful rose window, with pretty white molding. my worries went out the window Smiley winking

I've attended different weddings, and the ones I had the most fun at were the ones that were the lower budget.

I wouldn't worry about it at all. Smiley smile it sounds like a intimate relaxed type of event, and I'm sure that many would enjoy that.

    have fun!

Beautiful and elegent weddings can happen at any price point. It might take a little extra effort and planning on your part but I'm sure it will be gorgeous and classy!

The most expensive wedding I was ever at was NOT the most elegant. In fact it was a little flashy for my taste. Understated can be very sophisticated.

And in any case - it doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks. It's your wedding, not a show you put on for your guests. They love you and want to be there to support you. Feed them and they will come Smiley smile

I think that sounds lovely. Honestly we are only having a bigger venue because my fiance has a huge family (we can't do less than 100 people and that is just close friends and direct family aunts uncles cousins). I would have loved a garden ceremony. My aunts wedding was in her friends back yard it was beautiful and very relaxed and fun!
