Worried my venue is too bright??

mmbrake28, on July 6, 2017 at 9:51 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 24

So long story short, I fell in love with my venue because of the brick walls, wooden floors/beams, and all the beautiful windows. I'm having a garden-esque wedding so just picture it with lots of lush greenery everywhere.

Except...my parents went to a wedding this past weekend at my venue, and I told them to tell me everything about it when they got back. Everything they told me was great except they mentioned that not many people danced while they were there (although they did leave early at around 9pm). I asked them if the DJ was bad and they said that he was "decent", but it was more that the room was very bright from all the windows and it didn't give off a dancing type of atmosphere.

Now I'm worried!! I want everyone to be dancing at my wedding! My wedding will be August 11, 2018 and the sun usually sets around 8pm where I'm at in August. So the room won't actually get DARK until around then. Is this a problem?

I'll attach pictures in the comments:

@Brittany - haha, I feel a little crazy being worried about this. Thank you for reassuring me that I am! So silly. I am normally not like this but I feel like all this planning has made me stressed about making every single detail perfect.

Id imagine at 8 pm your guests will just be finishing up dinner and not dancing yet anyways....you are worrying over nothing. Also it takes a bit usually to really get people up and dancing after dinner. You are worrying needlessly. Unless your reception ends at like 9 pm-you're fine.

ETA: you're venue will be gorgeous decked out with greenery. I love that modern warehouse/loft vibe with all the natural elements for contrast.

What a beautiful venue! There is a lot of natural light aka the best light. Smiley winking I don't think you have anything to worry about!

Your venue is stunning. No need to second guess your decision. The sun won't be set until 8PM but it will still be dark-ish because it's going down. You'll have a twilight glow in that room.

So beautiful! If your still worried about it being to light could you have curtains? I think it's funny the little things we worry about as brides, we have to just let it go. Maybe the stress makes us think of odd things lol

OP - I stress about the same CRAZY non important things. Sometimes you just need other people to tell you to stop stressing, whatever you are doing is lovely and you're doing a great job planning - everything will work out and be perfect.

OP: My venue has a lot of sky light windows ( it's like an indoor courtyard). I was worried about that too, but it is what it is. I would ask about curtains. A bunch of the windows at our venue can be closed with curtains, we just had to ask.

If it makes you feel any better, my brother was married at 11:00 in the morning on a glorious June day. The dance floor was out on the venue's covered deck. There were *always* people on the dance floor, sitting with a drink by the dance floor, or going back to the dance floor. It didn't matter what kind of lighting there was - the DJ was fabulous and everyone wanted to dance.

Try not to Worry about the light too much, OP. Your venue is gorgeous, and people will be packing the dance floor all night!

Maybe the guests at that wedding just weren't the dancing type? Maybe most of their guests were into country music and the dj was playing all pop music. Who knows!? Don't stress, just plan to do things your way and enjoy your day.

One of the most popular venues in my area looks very similar with exposed brick and giant windows. Everytime I've passed by, I've seen people gettin down on the dance floor! Don't worry, just trust your DJ. Smiley smile

I think it's a great venue. For instance, I had a wedding in Alexandra park in New Zealand. I just came across their website by accident . Great food, nice sceneries and a lot of space. We also had fireworks.
