Worried My Fiancé Won’t Like My Dress

I bought my wedding dress a few weeks ago and I think it looks great on me but it was a tough decision because everything I tried on looked good! I don’t mean this in a cocky way I just mean it’s so hard to decide. I always thought you were supposed to cry when you found “the one” but I didn’t cry...
I bought my wedding dress a few weeks ago and I think it looks great on me but it was a tough decision because everything I tried on looked good! I don’t mean this in a cocky way I just mean it’s so hard to decide. I always thought you were supposed to cry when you found “the one” but I didn’t cry at anything. So anyway I have my dress it won’t come until May probably but I am so worried because my fiancé always comments on how he likes tight/fitted mermaid style gowns and mine is a traditional a-line. I want to look good, but I also want him to be wowed! Anyone else ever had this problem? Any advice? Right now I was thinking I could just get a mermaid one for the rehearsal dinner and keep my current dress but the idea of him not liking it gives me anxiety. My dress is essence of Australia 2363

I was thinking of wearing a tighter one for the rehearsal dinner... he likes mermaid cause it shows my butt the most for sure. I like the idea of having my gown on for reception pictures so I don’t know if I want to change.

Totally get it! I was planning to wear my dress for first dances and such because I wanted it in photos too, and then maybe change at some point after but I didn't really know when, and if I spent the money on a second dress I wanted that one in photos too. I ended up selling the Montreal dress I bought and just committing myself to wearing the one dress. If I need a second dress for any reason, I'll probably just wear my shorter rehearsal dress from the night before (I actually don't even know if we are having a rehearsal, but I got excited about buying ivory dresses when I got engaged and that one was so inexpensive I'm definitely keeping it).

Having a "backup" dress isn't a bad idea if you can afford it. At our friends wedding her dress was pretty much ruined after their outdoor ceremony (it had rained a ton beforehand, and the bottom 6-10" of her dress was totally soaked in her formal photos) but she had a super cute jumpsuit she changed into for the ceremony. I think the jumpsuit was more "her" and more bridal then her actual dress, so I think it's awesome that most of her party photos have the jumpsuit in them.

That’s a good point. Maybe I can use the white one I wear to my rehearsal as a backup if my dress gets muddy. My venue is mostly outside so I will be in grass a lot. If it rains prior I may be at risk for muddy dress

You look stunning in that dress! He may like a dress, but a key to the perfect gown is the person wearing it, not the gown itself. He’ll be wowed because it’s YOU in the dress - his future wife! And you’re wearing it because you’re marrying him! What could wow him more than that?

I kept asking my husband what he thought my dress would look like and he said big ball gown with lots of poof and sparkles like something of a princess. My dress was NOTHING like what he described but once I walked down the aisle he got tears and told me how beautiful my dress was

That’s true! He knows I love mermaid style dresses and mermaids in general ( I have a huge mermaid tattoo on my side). So I don’t know if that’s why he saying it or what. I know it’s at least partly because he wants to see my butt shape more. But hopefully the a line will still wow him. It does accentuate my waist so that’s good. Love your dress also!

That dress is gorgeous on you! My fiancé says the same thing about a wedding dress. He’s got it in his head that they’re fitted with a long train. My dress is very simple and not fitted. I’m also a little worried about the big dip in the front. I tossed around the idea of getting a different dress but I think once you get your hair, makeup, veil, and just the whole package it will be a wow factor. Tighter fitted dress or not. Here’s my very much not fitted dress. Excuse the mess!! I was in the process of sorting my wedding pile, crafting, and my cute but clumbsy child all but destroyed my carpet in the process. I promise this room no longer looks this disgusting. Lol.

If he doesn’t like this one on you than he is a blind fool!!!!!! Sorry. You look stunning!

He will be so happy to see you, and marry you, he won’t really care what you have on! Besides if it makes YOU happy and you feel it is THE dress than it is.
Let me ask you: if he hadn’t been so “I like THIS!” Would you feel like this is THE dress?? Don’t let his wants cloud yours. Most guys don’t know what the hell they want unless they are truly into fashion.... lol... and then they don’t know what they want their bride to be in!

That's exactly what happened to our friend. My wedding ceremony is outside on grass too. Fingers crossed we both have amazing weather leading up to and on our big day!

First of all - you look really beautiful, so rest easy that your fiance will be wowed when he sees you! The dress suits your frame and face really well.

Second of all - I couldn't help but smile when I saw the giant "no photos, please" sign above the mirror in your selfies! Kudos on your chutzpah; I didn't have the nerve to sneak a photo when I tried on the dress I really fell in love with. I understand that they don't want people copying dress designs, but how do they expect people to make a decision if they can't compare the dresses?

Third - about your original question. You could try doing what I'm doing with my fiance; I scroll through random wedding dress photos on my instagram and ask him if he likes them. Now and then I sneak the ones I'm really interested in there, but I don't let on that they're on my "list." This way I get an idea of what might "wow" him, while also getting confirmation that we have the same taste Smiley smile I hope he wouldn't be so rigid about wanting you to be in a mermaid-style dress! I can't imagine your partner being disappointed at the sight of you, though - you really look great.
