Worried My Fiancé Won’t Like My Dress

Kelly, on December 7, 2019 at 10:03 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 59
I bought my wedding dress a few weeks ago and I think it looks great on me but it was a tough decision because everything I tried on looked good! I don’t mean this in a cocky way I just mean it’s so hard to decide. I always thought you were supposed to cry when you found “the one” but I didn’t cry at anything. So anyway I have my dress it won’t come until May probably but I am so worried because my fiancé always comments on how he likes tight/fitted mermaid style gowns and mine is a traditional a-line. I want to look good, but I also want him to be wowed! Anyone else ever had this problem? Any advice? Right now I was thinking I could just get a mermaid one for the rehearsal dinner and keep my current dress but the idea of him not liking it gives me anxiety. My dress is essence of Australia 2363

Your dress is SO beautiful! I'm sure he will be WOWed!

My FH also makes similar comments, and I also bought an A-line dress. Our guys will love it cause we will look fantastic in them!

Your FH is going to love any dress you wear because you’re wearing it. You can wear tight fitted dresses anytime, there’s not many occasions where a lovely a-line gown is appropriate. Your dress is gorgeous!

That’s sort of how I feel.. I will never wear a big puffy dress again and I liked how I felt almost like I was floating when I walked cause you can’t see my feet.. my dress will also be Ivory underlay this is “Moscato”. I don’t know why I just feel more “bridal” in full gowns! Even though I love mermaid this one felt more impressive idk

    It's gorgeous on you!!!
I think I had shared this before...basically my husband had been married before. And he told me it was a huge issue in his first marriage because at the wedding when he saw his ex wife for the first time he said she looked nice. NICE?!?!? Lol needless to say I had anxiety over it. But the more I thought about it... I know for a fact the dress i picked wouldn't be his first, second or third choice...BUT the dress is me and I feel like million bucks in it. And it will show. He loves ME even when I wear things he hates (sweatpants are his worst enemy and my best friend haha). I guess my point is that even if u went out of ur way trying to find a dress HE would like ud prob end up w something he only likes and u don't feel amazing in. Which is sort of lose lose... Smiley smile
With that said...if you think like YOU are missing a wow factor for yourself maybe keep looking if that's an option???

Hi Karina! Yeah that would be tough, my fiancé has a son from his long term ex but they were never married so I don’t have to worry about that. I def felt a wow factor, I just worry it won’t be what he thinks is wow. I know he would want something tight on my butt. at this point id have to just shell out more money for a new one bc the place I got it doesn’t do returns

Thanks H! It was hard that you couldn’t take pictures until you basically said you were buying it. I also tried on the essence d2770 which is more sexy and mermaidy but this one was so light and easy to move in. I felt self conscious about my gut in the mermaid style dresses

I also got an A-line dress and my fiancé would like to see my butt more Smiley winking. But I agree, it’s how you feel and what you project that will make him happy! I personally wouldn’t feel as good in a mermaid dress, also I want to feel free to dance!!

My husband thought there was no way I'd wear a ballgown. He was 100% wrong because I love ballgowns. Not sure how he didn't know what. Even though that's not what he thought I would wear, he still thought I looked amazing. Your fiance will love what you're wearing because he loves you and he will know that's the dress you wanted to wear. I think it is a really pretty dress.

You have nothing to worry about. That may be the style that he likes but at the end of the day he's going to love seeing you all dressed up regardless of the style of dress. I think your dress looks beautiful I think it fits you well. He's just going to love seeing you coming down the aisle looking very Bridal. If that is a dress that you love it's the dress that you should have even if it's not the kind of dress that he likes. It is both of your wedding day but it's your dress and it's how you feel the dress.

You look amazing, and your finance will absolutely think so too!

I think men really like fit-and-flare style dresses because they show off your figure, and this dress makes your waist look amazing, so he will definitely approve. Plus, when you dance with him and can move comfortably all night he'll appreciate it, and a-line gowns are definitely easier to move in than dresses that tuck in tightly past the hips. You picked a fantastic dress and he will love it!

I wouldn’t worry at all! He’s going to see how pretty you look in it and not even remember what a mermaid style dress is.

My husband said before our wedding that he hated dresses “with all that junk all over” them. Yes, of course, my dress had lace over satin over tulle, and beading to boot. I loved my dress (it was also EOA) and felt like a princess in it. When he saw me, he could barely contain himself! He didn’t see all the details. He only saw someone beaming, confident and happy. That’s what will happen with your fiancé, too, I bet. He’ll be so excited to see you looking so beautiful, that’s what he’ll see.

Hi Kelly, my FH also really liked fit-and-flare/mermaid/trumpet styles because he wanted something that showed off my waist and butt. I did end up going with a fit-and-flare dress because I loved the style too. Would you consider a second dress for your reception? Wearing a second dress would allow you to choose a different silhouette than your first dress, and it doesn't have to be expensive. For example:

    BHLDN Montreal ($220)

I ended up with a shorter version of the Lulu's dress that I plan on wearing for my rehearsal. I also bought the Montreal dress as well but ultimately decided I wanted to wear my ceremony dress all night. Just an idea!
