Wording Help... For a Cash Bar

Amanda, on March 10, 2010 at 11:50 AM Posted in Planning 0 17

I would just put Cash Bar but I am actaully doing a Tab on the Bar and once that runs out then it will be a Cash Bar. Don't know if I should just put Cash Bar since it's not really or something like a cocktail hour. I really don't want to confuse people. Any Ideas would be helpful.

You don't need to "post" that. The bartenders will handle that for you when people order.

I would still word it. I NEVER carry cash and what if the tab went through before someone got a drink?

I'm with Jenn... you need to let them know some how that it is a cash bar at some point so they can be sure to have cash... unless there is a ATM at your venue? I don't know how to word it on an invite...

Maybe cash bar at certain limit? Or cash bar after a certain time period? It's not like it's a contract, so I see nothing wrong with estimating Smiley smile Is a guest REALLY going to make a stink if your time is off?

Well I can't remember the last time I went to a place that didn't have a credit card machine. Instead of a "tab", maybe you can give your guests drink tickets? Like give each person two drink tickets. After that, they're on their own?

Maybe you shouldn't post it. I would be worried my guests would rush to the bar early and drink as much as they could before the tab reached the limit. Then other guests may not get any drinks.

    Maybe something like...

    .

"Please join us for an all-inclusive dinner and a cash bar. Reception to be held at..."

    .

    OR

    .

"We would like to treat our loved ones to dinner at... Cash bar available."

@ MEG I absolutely agree. That's why I suggested drink tickets. It's just not something I would want printed on my wedding invitation. Now we did for my sister's engagement party but that's a lot less formal.

I understand the concern and I was worried about people rushing to the Bar as well, but almost half of the guest are coming from out of town and I don't want them to be stranded not being able to drink if they have no Cash. And the ticket idea might work but just don't know how excute it properly.

I think the ticket idea would be great so it's fair! Good call ladies! Maybe just post it as a cash bar? I don't know how you can word drink tickets.

Don't underestimate the intelligence of your guests. If they are THAT worried about being able to drink, they will bring cash!

It is tacky to print something like that on the invitation. Period.

If you are really worried, put it on your website under the information about the reception. As far as drink tickets, you could attach them to the programs, if you are having them. But really, people will figure it out.

I think you should just write small on the invites for more information go to... and then your website. i put on mine that there will be a cash bar, but sodas and a champagne toast is on us. i think just call it a cash bar. then people will bring money and have a nice surprise that the first one or two drinks are free!

I agree with drink tickets. Estimate how many drinks your tab will get each guest and give them tickets accordingly. I'm just not sure how you would word that on the invitation...

Amanda, check with your venue. They may have tickets they can give you. Our venue offered that as an option to us and they said they would provide the tickets. If not, you can either make your own or they sell them at any office supply store.

Execution: you have a few options. If you're having a hostess at the recpetion, you can have someone at the entrance hand them out when the guests arrive. If you're having escort cards, you could attach them to the back or inside of the tent cards with maybe a paper clip? You could also put them on the place setting. But I would be concerned that early arrivers may take more than their share once they realize what they're for. The best option is to have someone personally hand them to the guests if you can work that out at all.

Maybe you could include something along the lines of " we invite family and freinds for a dinner reception where the first drink is on us" this way they know there will be a bar but that they will pay for their own drinks.
