Won a free Mary Kay pampering session

Jennifer, on January 22, 2017 at 6:41 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 49

I signed up for a raffle at Davids bridal when we went for bridesmaids dresses and they called me today and said I won!

I was planning on inviting the allowed 6 guests but my mom is not into it saying they're just going to pressure you to buy the entire time.

Is this a scam to just try and sell me? Has anyone one else won?

I've heard this is a scam and not at all a pampering. They ask you to invite people and turn it into a party and basically pressure you and your friends to buy.

Mary Kay appointments/makeup trials are generally free in the first place. I'd treat it as I would a makeover at a department store makeup counter: go into it with the expectation of buying something.

On that note, I'd debrief any would-be guests along similar lines.

It's not a scam in the sense it is free, but it's definitely a sales event. I went to it because I already buy Mary Kay and I wanted the discount. It's not pampering...You do the makeover yourself. But it's a nice coupon if you already buy MK. Otherwise blow it off.

My friend fell for that. You get to try their samples for free. It was a "sell job." Then the woman called/e-mailed all the ladies who attended dozens a times = a real nuisance.

I "won" this exact package a few years back and pretty much you go in and the rep shows you which of their products work for your skin type. You get to try on all these free samples and you get a free gift but they still try and sell you everything they have. It felt kind of like a guilt trip for me. If I don't by something then I am waisting their time?.... idk. up to you though!

Yep, I "won" this at a bridal expo. Have deleted all emails.

I "won" this and was so excited. On the phone, she made it sound like we were all going to get pampered and receive makeovers. She also told me that it would be a good way to try out different looks and get some ideas for bridal makeup.

    None of this was true.

It was literally a sales "party." She gave us a few products to try out on ourselves and then tried to get us to buy them. None of us bought anything, and the lady got annoyed. It took her months to stop calling me. My friends still make fun of it to this day!

    TLDR; run far away.

This isn't a big deal. It's a normal Mary Kay party. The consultant "treats" all guests to a fancy face-washing and then tries to sell stuff.

It's a sale event I've won as well but graciously declined. (1) I don't wear makeup, (2) I use to sell Mary Kay products and (3) I didn't want any of my invited guest to be harrased as I was once they told me I won, non stop emails and phone calls!!

I won one as well. While it is free, it's not a pampering session. They have you try on all of their products and then try to get you to buy them. It was a waste of time for me honestly

Yeah, what pp's have said. You do all the "pampering" yourself while they attempt to sell you their products.

Not a scam just had one its really just you and your girls learning about their products by trying them and then if you want to buy you can. the only pressure i felt was they try to get you to sell it and i just dont have time for that mess

I have been contacted by at least 4 different people telling me I won this. So I feel like it's not some big thing... haha. I haven't reached out to any because I feel like it might be a waste.

I won something like this at a bridal expo and got people together to take advantage of this. It was an actual thing and I figured why not but I wish I hadn't. That consultant tried getting us to keep buying their product despite us telling them we simply were not interested. I had to block her from my phone b/c of the constant text messages of new deals and block the e-mail.

I "won" this, and I did not even sign up for it. DB just gave them my info, I suppose. I am not doing it, because my sister did a few years ago, and it was a sales party. It was fun, but I did not want to mess with it.

I sold Mary Kay for a little while. It's a legit company and the products are good. But yes they will try to get you to buy stuff or have a "class" as they refer to their parties. This raffle was probably put together between the DB store and a particular consultant to reach out to potential customers. The consultants are generally very nice people and like I said, the products are good. Just go into it with the mindset to just try some stuff and have fun!

It's just a sales pitch, and everyone "wins"

I have "won" this 3 times in the last 3 months! I'm not a huge fan of sale parties...
